Cary Swan

Cary Swan Jr., 84, affectionately known as “Sonny”, passed away on May 9, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was a veteran of the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. He was a 1958 graduate of Howard High School. Cary was a member of the former Alleyne Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. He retired from Mueller Company after 32 years of service. Sonny was preceded in death by his father, Cary “Ike” Swan Sr.; mother, Macy Swan Lester; sisters, Mary N. Drew and Lossie Sims; brother, Jimmy Swan. Survivors include his devoted wife of 65 years, Bettye Farrol McFarland; son, Cary L. Swan, of Chattanooga; daughters, Delores Berry, of Park Forest, IL and Kasandra (Clark) Scates, of Suwanee, Ga.; grandchildren, Phillip Berry Jr., IL, Niquitta (Haikim) Berry-Muhammad, Jason Berry, all of Chicago, Michael (Dannielle) Swan of Chattanooga, Anthony (Martina) Scates, of Manhattan, KS, Aundré (Maecy) Scates, of Yokosuka, Japan, and Joshua Swan, of Chattanooga; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Graveside service: today at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor E. Lamar Young as the eulogist. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
