Richard Grover Edgerton, Sr., departed this life on August 16, 2019. He was 97 years old and the son of Bertha and Grover Edgerton. Richard was known to his friends and family as “Dick”. He was a Christian gentleman, scholar, Soldier and farmer. During World War II he was trained as a fighter pilot and served first as an instructor, then as a pilot in Europe with the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. At the end of the war he returned to the United States and married his sweetheart, Trudy Birk. They were friends and lovers for 63 years until her death. He was an engineer graduate from The University of Florida and spent his career in The Dominican Republic, Honduras and Costa Rica on sugar cane and banana operations. He retired to the Chattanooga Area in 1984. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Baker and Frances Curran and a son Richard Edgerton, Jr.; six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; in-laws and extended family members and friends. A graveside service will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11 AM Thursday, August 22. Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
