Lazelle Grothe

Lazelle Anderson Grothe of Chattanooga and Signal Mountain, TN died August 8, 2019 at the age of 93. She was born in Blue Ridge, Georgia on July 25, 1926, daughter of the late Wesley Olin Anderson and the late Erma Payne Anderson. She was the last surviving grandchild of her paternal grandparents, John Floyd Anderson and Tallulah Barr Anderson. Mrs. Grothe enjoyed a distinguished career in public relations in Miami and Southern California before she and her husband retired to Chattanooga. She traveled the world and welcomed a fascinating array of people into her home and into her life. She played the piano spectacularly, she brought an elegant style to every setting of which she was a part , and NY Times crossword puzzles were a “fill-in-the-blank” exercise for her. She made countless friends and they, along with the multitude of professional and social acquaintances whose company she enjoyed over the years would echo the words of her granddaughter who wrote “She changed every person’s life she touched, especially mine.” Her world was ‘très magnifique, in her own words. She is survived by her son, James Maxwell Storey, III and his wife Kelley Ervin Storey of Chattanooga, TN and by her son Stephen Anderson Storey of Richmond VA, 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren She was pre-deceased by her husband of 33 years, Howard Laverne Grothe with whom she lived in Miami, Florida, Santa Ana, California and Chattanooga TN, and her young son John Calvin Storey, whose loss she mourned most of her adult life. A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga on Wednesday, August 28th at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Anderson Family Cemetery in Blue Ridge Georgia at 2:00 PM that same day. Mrs. Grothe and her family request that any donations be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 305 W 7th St., Chattanooga, TN 37402.
