Charles Schmitt, Sr., 85, passed away on Jan. 9, 2019. He was a member of Miracle Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and golf. He was a U.S. Army veteran who proudly served in Korea, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. His wife, Shirley Schmitt, his parents, Charles and Henrietta Schmitt, and sisters, Betty Atkins, Dorothy Workman, Joetta Harris and Helen Schmitt, all precede Charles in death. Survivors include his sons, Charles (Lynn) Schmitt Jr., Richard (Lisa) Troy Schmitt, and Raymond (Cheryl) Dale Schmitt; daughter, Sheila (Bill) Renee Hammontree; brothers, Leon and Frankie Schmitt; grandchildren, Tracy (Barry) Higgins, Crystal (Chris) Cox, Michael (Jeannie) Leffew, Joshua (Shanda) Schmitt, and Brandon and Tyler Schmitt; great-grandchildren, Whitley Brown, Emily and Ella Higgins, Madison and Gracie Leffew, and Jersey, Colby and Shae Cox; great-great-grandchildren, Carson Schmitt and Cruz Brown; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Conaway presiding. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
