Raymond J. “Buddy” Dowling, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 1, 2019. Born in Penn-Craft, Pa., to Margaret and Raymond J. Dowling, Sr., he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He and his family relocated to Hixson, Tenn., to continue a career in manufacturing, followed by a decade in the real estate business. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach at his second home in Hilton Head Island, S.C., and will be remembered for his crystal blue eyes, love of dancing and card-playing skills. Ray’s natural warmth and genuine spirit enabled him to make friends wherever he went. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen “Shirley” Dowling; and five children; Kathleen, Colleen Gordon (John), Carol Bazemore (Barry), Diane Dowling (Paul Lewis) and Raymond Dowling (Antonia); 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at St. Jude Catholic Church on June 7, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Committal of ashes will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. All are invited to reception at St. Jude Family Life Center at 3 p.m.
