Joy Mahan

TUNNEL HILL — Joy Ruth Waldrep Mahan, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2019, at her home after a prolonged decline in health. She has been a resident of the Chattanooga/North Georgia area for 71 years. Joy was a member at Tunnel Hill Baptist Church and had previously been a long time member at East Ridge Baptist Church. She had taught two years at Lakeview High School before starting her family. Joy loved to sew, garden and watch birds. She was active with the Catoosa County Historical Society and authored a genealogy book on the Waldrep family and another on the Mahan family. Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, John Mahan; sons, Charles (Vista) Mahan, of New Salem, Ga., Jim (Tricia) Mahan, of Memphis and Robert (Hollan) Mahan, of Brentwood, Tenn.; daughters, Gaylia (John) Jones, of Gallatin, Tenn., and Merry (Rick) Dore, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; grandchildren, Jamie, Rion, Michael, Ben, Tim, Charity and Melonee; step-grandchildren, Heather, Yvonne, Wanda, Richard, Kurtus and numerous great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dewey Boyd and Rev. Tyson Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with Rev.
