Emma Magruder

Emma Hines Magruder, 68, passed away on May 17, 2019. Emma was previously a member of Tabernacle Baptist where she served as Sunday School teacher, Financial Secretary, and was a member of the Usher Board. In 1997, she joined Second Missionary Baptist Church serving as Assistant Sunday School and Evangelism School teacher, Chaplain, and Treasurer of Senior Usher Board Ministry. Emma retired from Tennessee Valley Authority and the Chattanooga Police Department. She was also a dedicated worker with the Chattanooga Election Commission, Hospice of Chattanooga, Erlanger Medical center, Hamilton County Health Department and Hamilton County Juvenile Court. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Lizzie N. Hamilton and Jesse C. Hines; stepparents, Margaret J. Hines and David Hamilton; sister, Jessica Hines Vaughn. She is survived by loving and devoted husband, Gregory W. Magruder; beloved son, Andre Maurice Magruder; grandsons, Tahvis, Aaron, Ashante, and Andre; two great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Dunn of Baytown, TX; several nephews, nieces, aunts, cousins and dear friends, Atheria, Pearl, Evelyn, Earnestine and Sidney. Mrs. Magruder will lie in state on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 12 noon to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Paul A. McDaniel and Rev. Dr. Earnest L. Reid officiating.
