Elizabeth Thornbrough

Elizabeth Louise Thornbrough, 86, of Soddy-Daisy, passed through the gates of Heaven on Monday, October 21, 2019. She was a member of Rechoboth Baptist Church. Elizabeth retired as the Director of Nursing at the Hamilton County Nursing Home after 21 years. After retiring there she served as the Ombudsman of Nursing Homes for the State of Tennessee. She was instrumental in getting care set up for St. Jude patients locally at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital. Elizabeth was responsible for the nationwide recall on defective medical equipment. She was preceded in death by her son, Claude J. Chauncey, Jr., parents, Sam and Bessie Wilson; sister, Betty Hayes; brothers, Jimmy Wilson, Freddie Wilson and Everette Wilson. Survivors are her husband of 35 years, Raymond Thornbrough; daughter, Cherry McDonald (C.R.); grandchildren, Tamara Daughtrey and Chip McDonald (Teresa); great grandchildren, Christian Gamble, Ariel Daughtrey, Tristan McDonald, Jeffery Chauncey (Amy), Michael Chauncey (Christina), Jeanie Burchard (Adam), Chloe McDonald, C.J. Burchard, Emma Grace Burchard, Cierra Chauncey, Cayla Chauncey, Jay Chauncey; daughter-in-law, Barbara Chauncey and several nieces and nephews. Services will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Alan Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Poe Cemetery.
