Virginia Humberger

CLEVELAND — Virginia May Humberger, 90, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2019. She was born November 19, 1928 in Clyde, OH. Virginia attended Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio and had careers in both social work and education. She taught 3rd and 4th grades at Ooltewah Elementary School. She performed with the Sweet Adelines Chorus. Later in life she attended Scarritt University in Nashville and earned her Master’s in Christian Education. Virginia served as a diaconal minister at First United Methodist Church in Gainesville, FL. She retired to Cleveland where she was a cherished member in multiple ministries at Wesley United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Florine Brugger; and sister, Lois Bennett. She was married to Donald E. Humberger. Virginia is survived by her two sons, Hans (Nancy) Humberger of Chattanooga and Kurt Humberger of Cleveland; grandchildren, Hans Humberger II of Chattanooga, Keith (Jamie) Humberger of Crossville, Dana (Drew) Adams of Ooltewah and Holly (Jonathon) Kell of Chattanooga; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Ramon Torres and Pastor Chris Rouse officiating. Her family will receive friends from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made to Wesley Memorial Preschool, 3405 Peerless Road NW, Cleveland TN 37312 or the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
