SPRING CITY — Tommie Jo “T.J.” May Hodges, 82, died peacefully at home on Watts Bar Lake on Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the company of her husband of nearly 63 years. Born December 15, 1936 in Montezuma, GA to Marjorie Claire Smith and Lewis Weldon May, she was salutatorian of her graduating class at Jackson High School, Jackson GA and attended the University of Georgia, Chi Omega sorority. Her career leveraging her keen organizational prowess spanned from Helena Chemical in Memphis, TN to nearly 20 years at Mahle, Inc., a German manufacturing company in Morristown, TN. Her sharp wit and lifelong love of reading inspired years of well-heeled conversation and grammatical precision. Her love of domestic and international travel and cuisine broadened not only her horizons but those whom she and Randy entertained over many decades. Her lifelong faith led her to serve actively in her church as Treasurer, and she volunteered both at the Helping Hands Food Pantry and for Friends of the Library, and served as President of the Spring City Women’s Club. She loved friends and family most of all, and gatherings on the lake or travels to the beach provided more than a lifetime of memories for everyone who loved her. T.J. is survived by her husband, Warren Randolph “Randy” Hodges, her first grandchild Claire Weldon Futrell who was proceeded in death by T.J. and Randy’s first daughter Elizabeth Weldon “Libby” Gross (nee Futrell), her son Warren Randolph “Warren” Hodges, Jr. and his wife Susan Sweeney Hodges and children Samuel Randolph “Sam” Hodges, Ann Marie Hodges of Lexington, KY, her daughter Dorothy Blaylock “Dottie” Hodges and Harold “Hal” Turner and children Marshall Warren Dandelski and Katherine “Kit” Turner of Signal Mountain, TN. She is also survived by her two sisters, Marilyn Allen (Clyde, deceased, children Kelly and Gene) and Betty Jane “Bootsie” Brittain (Arthur Allan, and Cynthia “Cindy”), and their loving families. Services will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church of Spring City 268 W Jackson Ave, Spring City, TN. Family will receive friends at 11am with chapel service at 12 noon. The family welcomes those who would like to join for interment at approximately 2:30pm at Spring City Cemetery.
