Dorothy Kaset

Dorothy Sir Kaset died peacefully beside her family on September 13, 2019. Dorothy was born in 1925 in Chattanooga and lived there all her life but for her final two years, when she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to be near her son and his family. Dorothy was witty, intelligent and strong willed, but most importantly she was a loving mother and grandmother, dedicated to her loving family. She graduated from the University of Chattanooga and then studied under a fellowship at the University of Maryland. She taught school in Chattanooga for several years and later was a real estate agent. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Melvin Kaset, and her brother and sister, Harry Sear and Josephine (Yuppie) Shavin. She is survived by her son David and his wife Tobie Bresloff, MD, and their two sons, Ted Hyman of St. Louis, and Jonathan Hyman of Washington, DC, nephews and nieces Gerald Sear, Rita Shavin Brook and Gayle Shavin Taliafero all of Chattanooga, and Alan Shavin of Phoenix, AZ. Dorothy would have appreciated that contributions in her memory be made to any charity, but especially those that support education. Graveside services will be at B’nai Zion Cemetery, in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 10 am. Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel
