Roy Parrish

CHICKAMAUGA - Roy Evitt Parrish, Jr., age 86, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020. He was a lifelong resident of Chickamauga. After graduation from Gordon Lee High School, Roy started to work for Chickamauga Telephone Company and then served his country in the US Army in Korea. He served on the city council for two years and became Chickamauga’s first City Manager or City’s Utilities Manager as it was called at that time. Later he was successful in running for Walker County Commissioner and proudly served his fellow citizens for 24 years until his retirement in 1996. Roy was a member of Elizabeth Lee UMC for over 50 years where he served as chairman of the administrative board and other positions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mae Autry Parrish; son, Roy E. “Trey” Parrish, III; sisters, Virginia Jo Ford and Verlie Lou Geurin; brother, John Thomas Parrish, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Cora Ann Kell Parrish; daughter, Cynthia Parrish Larsen; grandchildren, Tiffany Parrish and Roy Evitte (Mary) Parrish, IV; great-grandchildren, Brookelynn, Roy “Quincy” Evitte V and Adlee; sisters-in-law, Nelda Hise Parrish and Carolyn Kell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, 7-10-2020 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Zach Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment will be in Chickamauga City Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elizabeth Lee UMC Building Fund or Trust Fund. Due to Covid-19, seating will be limited during the service.
