Bruce Dewitt Bowen, born August 31, 1949, at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN to Dewitt and Josie Bowen, passed away Saturday morning, May 16, 2020 at Memorial Hospital Hixson.

Bruce grew up in Collegedale and attended Georgia Cumberland Academy for grades 10-12 where he graduated with honors in 1968. He attended Southern Missionary College, now Southern Adventist University.

Bruce married Hattie Louise Cox of East Ridge, TN (dec.) and they had a daughter, Andrea Louise and a son Bruce Dewitt II

He was an avid car enthusiast from an early age, beginning his driving career at 7 years old, driving his mother’s 1955 Chevy out in the field of the farm where the family lived off Ooltewah-Ringgold Road. This same passion for driving fast led him to win several drag racing championships during the late 1970’s and 1980’s.

Bruce’s career was spent working in sales & marketing for the automotive sales parts industry for over 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Drue and Lillie Bowen and Guy and Inez Newlon, and parents, Dewitt and Josie Bowen. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea (Darren) Kennedy of Dunlap and son, Bruce II (Leslea) of Bristol TN; step-daughters Riley (Zach) McDonald of Ooltewah, and Mikel McClure of Sale Creek, grandchildren Lauren and Grayson Kennedy; Grace, Ella and Alex Bowen, Paxton and Andie Jo McDonald; sister JoDee Bowen of Marietta, Georgia.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
