Virginia “Jo” Carter Mahan age 90, of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away Wednesday morning - May 20, 2020. She was born on June 10, 1929 in Chattanooga, TN – the first child of the late Roy Alvin and Noma Mae Turner Carter. She was a graduate of Chattanooga City High School – Class of 1947. After several clerical jobs, she eventually went to work for Southern Bell Telephone Company, later called Southeastern Bell Telephone Company and currently known as AT&T. She retired after thirty-five years service in October 1986. She remained a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America, where she served as secretary at times. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her step-father: Milton B. Dillard, brother: Charles (Joyce) Carter, several cousins and two nieces. She is survived by her beloved and loving husband of sixty-six years: Mack Allen Mahan, Sr. of Chattanooga, TN, their children: Mack Allen (Ann) Mahan, Jr. of Evensville, TN, Lisa (Fred) Henry of Holde*n Beach, N.C., sister: LaDell Carter of LaFayette, GA., brother: Randy (Irene) Dillard of Birmingham, AL, grandchildren: MacKayla (Daniel) Stockman, Christie Goff, Racheal Dentmon, Angie Pollard, Dwayne Dentmon and Keith Dentmon, several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 25, 2020 at the Cowboy Church in LaFayette, Georgia with Pastor Randy Hardin. Burial will follow in Payne Cemetery – Trenton, Georgia.
