Billie Pigford

Billie Houlditch Pigford (Mrs. Malcolm) age 93 of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, formerly of Vestavia Hills, Alabama died October 21, 2020 at her home surrounded by her devoted family and passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Malcolm Pigford who was a prominent Alabama physician and founder of the Birmingham Radiological Group in 1954. She was the daughter of the late Lucille Smitherman Houlditch and Willie Clay Houlditch of Selma, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia Houlditch Patterson of Clanton, Alabama, Patti Houlditch Sims of Selma, Alabama and brother, Ralph Houlditch of Montgomery, Alabama.

A native of Selma, Alabama, Mrs. Pigford graduated from Dallas County High School in 1946, and moved to Birmingham where she attended Birmingham Business College. She worked at Western Union during World War II and was later employed by the Lollar Camera Company as Executive Assistant to William B. Lollar, Jr. From 1970-1979, she was employed by the Homewood Board of Education as Assistant Librarian at the Homewood High School.

While living in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, she was an active and devoted member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class and worked with the “We Care” Department for many years.

She was a member of the General Sumter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Samford Auxiliary, the Jefferson County Medical Auxiliary, and the former Tanglewood Garden Club.

As the matriarch of three generations, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. The epitome of a gracious southern lady, her legacy of living a Christ-centered faithful life with grace, kindness, and love will be cherished and live in the memory of her loving family and dear friends.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Lisa Catalina Maclellan and son-in-law, Scott (Robert H.) Maclellan, beloved grandsons Dr. Reid A. Maclellan (Brooke) and Lee T. Maclellan (Caroline) all of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, brother Jim Houlditch ( Diana) of Kaufman, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home Hoover, AL Tuesday, October 27 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service officiated by Dr. Charles Carter and Reverend Joe Novenson, Eulogy by Dr. Reid Maclellan, Scripture by Lee Maclellan at Southern Heritage Cemetery. Arrangements by Martin Funeral of Clanton, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church Mission Fund, Samford University Scholarship Fund for children of missionaries or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
