Bettie Chastain

Bettie K. Chastain, 85, of Collegedale, TN, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

Bettie was born on November 26, 1934 to the late Warnie and Leona Knighting. Bettie was a hairdresser for 68 years and owner of Hair Fashions by Bettie. She loved to sing, and got to spend 25 years singing and traveling to new places. She was a charter member of the Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served as the Minister of Music and Women’s Ministry. She also served as the Secretary of the Professional Business Men’s Association where she was referred to as “The Mayor of Collegedale”.

Bettie had the biggest heart, she would do anything she could to help someone in need. She loved to be with her family, especially her 3 great-grandsons who she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer W. Chastain; step-daughter, Linda Rhodes; sister, Daisy Knighting; and brothers, Carl and Charlie Knighting.

She is survived by her daughters, Renee Chastain, Dawn (Kevin) Edgeman; sister, Faye (Lyle) Cash; granddaughter, Staci Tallent; great-grandsons, Kaden, Ace, and Isaac Tallent; step granddaughters, Rhonda Black, Kari Wilson; step grandson, Lee Rhodes; and best friends, Cathy Salhaney, and Dot Bull.

The family would like to thank the staff at Erlanger TICU for their care and support of Bettie after her fall.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church worthy student fund at 9209 Amos Rd. Ooltewah, TN 37363.

A funeral service will be on Saturday, September 5 at 4 PM at Ooltewah SDA Church with Pastor Peter Kulakov and Pastor Mike Pettingil officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3-4 PM at the church.

Per the current health situation and the mandate of the Hamilton County Mayor, visitors must adhere to all CDC guidelines, including social distancing and the wearing of facial coverings for visitation and services.

A graveside service will be at 11 AM on Sunday, September 6 at Collegedale Memorial Park with Rusty McKee, Dustin Tallent, Lamar Raines, Daniel Lowe, Matt Nation, Todd Johnson, Richard Johnson, and Kevin Edgeman serving as pallbearers.
