Lewis Rufe Higgins, 85, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Lewis was born on September 6, 1935 in McMinnville, Tennessee to the late Rufe and Louise Higgins. He graduated college from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was a huge TN Vols football and basketball fan. Lewis proudly served our country in the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Lewis retired from DuPont Corporation after 30 years of service. He was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Patricia “Pat” Higgins; a brother, Marlin Higgins; and a sister, Willadean Higgins.

Lewis is survived by his sons, Scott Higgins of Johnson City, TN, Blake Higgins of Hixson, son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Becky Higgins of Ooltewah; granddaughter, Naomi Higgins of Hixson.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 pm on Wednesday, September 16, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Services for Lewis will follow at 2:30 pm on Wednesday at the North Chapel with Dr. Steven Granger and Rev. Terry Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Lewis’ name to Hixson First Baptist Church, 5800 Grubb Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
