Lindsay Bennett

Lindsay H. Bennett, Jr. passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at age 85. Lindsay was born on April 22, 1935 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Lindsay was the youngest of two children of Lindsay H. Bennett, Sr., and Gweneth Broome Bennett. He is survived by his sons, Hamilton Bennett, Rodney Bennett, and Courtney Bennett, grandson, Roger Bennett, and nephews, Dietrich W. Diecke and Friedrich Diecke. His sister, Elizabeth Diecke, died June 1, 2014 in New Jersey.

Lindsay graduated with honors from Rossville High School, where he was a member of the Beta Club and football team, and went on to the University of Georgia where he majored in business and attended the UGA School of Law. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and was elected to the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, the X Club, and President of the senior class of 1957. He was also a member of the Gridiron Club at the University of Georgia and the Sphinx Society.

Lindsay was a member of the Air National Guard and following basic training in Texas, he moved to Atlanta to work as a clerk for Fulton County Superior Court Judge, Durwood T. Pye, before returning to Rossville, Georgia to practice law for 60 years.

Being a true people person, Lindsay’s passion for the practice of law gave him a chance to connect with the community and serve them in ways a small town lawyer could, by representing people from all walks of life. He was the past President of the Lookout Mountain Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, Vice President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and served as a state delegate to the Board of Governors of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Due to COVID-19, the funeral will be private. Funeral arrangements are being made at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe.
