Charlotte Thorogood

Charlotte E. Thorogood, 80, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born January 27, 1941 in Crockett County, TN to the late John Edd and Edith Edwards.  She was an avid tennis player, loved UT Football and playing bridge, although her greatest passion was her grandchildren. Charlotte was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.  She had a passion for her local community and served in many roles including; President of United Way of Bradley County and President of the Cleveland YMCA. There is currently an annual honor given to a local community woman in her name. She graduated Alamo High School, Alamo, TN and moved onto Murray State University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  She met and married, William Robert Wells, Sr. in 1964, and they had three children together.  They moved to Cleveland, TN in the early 1970s, where she continued to reside.  She later married George W. "Buck" Thorogood, Jr. of Cleveland on May 10, 1978 where they were blessed to add two additional children to their family. She was preceded in death by her late husband, William Robert Wells, Sr. and her daughter Karen Clark Wells.  She is survived by her husband, George W. "Buck" Thorogood, Jr. of Cleveland, TN; sister-in- law, Gertrude Wells Jones of Powell, TN; her daughter, Carrie Wells Law and husband, George H. "Bucky" Law, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; her son, William Robert Wells, Jr. and wife, Donnis Wells of Ooltewah, TN; her step-sons, George William Thorogood, III and his wife, Gretchen M. Thorogood; and Jo Bernard Thorogood of Nashville, TN; her grandchildren Chandler Thorogood Law, Nina Elizabeth "Libby" Law, and George Herschel "Tripp" Law, III of Birmingham, AL; Emily Frances Wells and Davis Clark Wells of Ooltewah. A Private Family Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Micah Nicolaus officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:30 pm at the church prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the United Way of the Ocoee Region:  P.O.
