Horace Traylor

On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, Dr. Horace Jerome Traylor was called home at the age of 90. The world has lost a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, educator, pastor, and civic leader. Dr. Traylor was the first black president of Zion College where he served from 1959 until 1969. Dr. Traylor was the first African American to graduate from the University of Chattanooga in 1965 with a Master of Education degree. When City College merged with the University of Chattanooga and the University of Tennessee, Dr. Traylor became Vice Chancellor.

Dr. Traylor joined the administration of Miami-Dade Community College in 1971 as President of the Foundation and Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Dr. Traylor is survived by his five daughters, four grandchildren, and one great grandson.

The wake, funeral,and burial services will be held at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Park South, 11655 S.W. 117 Avenue, Miami, FL 33186, on Sunday, July 11th, 3:00 p.m. - 5:00p.m.,

and Monday, July 12th
