William F. Redfield

William Frank Redfield, Sr., 84, or Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky.

William was born in Keene, New Hampshire on July 19, 1935 of William Frank and Kathrine (White) Redfield. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 26 ½ years and fought in the Korean War and was assigned two 2 year tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was given two citations and awarded two Bronze Stars with the “V” device and Silver Star for Valor in the Vietnam war. William was “Outstanding Airman of the Year in 1970 and was flown to Washington D.C. to be presented the ceremonial honors by President Richard M. Nixon. In 1978-79 Chief Master Sergeant William F. Redfield Sr. was presented with The Meritorious Service Medal by the Secretary of The Air Force. During his military career, he physically lived in over 12 different States and 7 different countries.

William retired from the U.S. Air Force on Sunday, September 30, 1979 while on tour at Scott Air Force Base where he lead the U.S. Air Force Inspector General Team. Prior to his last tour of duty he was given the assignment to be the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force stationed in Washington, D.C.

William then pursued a career with Eckard’s Drug Company by working his way from an Assistant Store Manager to a seven State Regional Manager. Because of all the traveling associated to job at Eckerd's Drug Company he left and began his third career working for the U.S. Postal Service. He quickly assumed the Postmaster position and elected after several years to be a rural carrier and performed this role for 21 years and retired in 2004.

William is survived by his wife, Betty Joyce Redfield, son William F. Redfield Jr and daughter, Tonya Joy Lewis (Joseph Edward Lewis Jr.) and his three sisters Margret Jane Chivottie, Martha Ellen Brunell, Kathrine Mary Marriott’s and his brother, David James Redfield. Five grandchildren Tabitha Joy Bolton (Jake Bolton) and Cameron J. Lewis (Kelsey Villamarin), Megan I. Shea (Connor M. Shea), Benjamin G. and Gabriella I. Redfield, and four great grandchildren.

William Sr. was preceded by his father Guy Frank and mother Cathrine Isabell (Moore) Redfield, daughter Dana Redette Redfield and two brother’s Robert Charles and John Arthur Redfield.

The military burial ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021 at the Chattanooga, Tennessee National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN. 37404, (423) 855-6590. Important to know, even though the address for the Chattanooga National Cemetery is1200 Bailey Avenue, the actual entrance is located on S. Holtzclaw Avenue.
