Evelyn Henley

Evelyn Russell Henley, of Soddy Daisy, passed away on Thursday, March 4th, 2021 at the age of 93. Evelyn was born in Oakdale, TN, the child of the late Fred Russell and Billie Russell Ehme.

Following graduation from Harriman High School, Evelyn married William “Buddy” Brooks Henley and lovingly embraced his three children, whom she raised with great care and compassion for the remainder of her life. Evelyn and Buddy’s son, Fred joined the family a few years later and together with their parents, the four children grew and thrived.

Evelyn and Buddy moved to Houston where Evelyn was employed as a bookkeeper before ultimately retiring in the Chattanooga area. Evelyn was a member of Burk’s United Methodist Church and the Senior Center of Soddy Daisy where she made many friends and participated in the variety of activities offered there. She particularly enjoyed reading, playing cards and games, and most of all, numerous extended family gatherings.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, William Henley and Louie Henley; brother, Carlton Russell, son, Fred Henley, and grandsons, David Wright and Doug Henley.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Sue Henley Wilson, Newt Henley, and Rachael Blevins (Ray) Clark; and six grandchildren. Evelyn had a gentle, gracious, and generous spirit always sharing a loving smile and kind words with everyone she met. She appreciated the warmth of her caring family and reciprocated in ways that assured each person of her genuine care and concern.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

The family will meet at 12:00 pm, EST on Wednesday, March 10th at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home and leave by 12:30 pm and travel together to the cemetery in Gruetli-Laager.

Graveside services for Evelyn will be held at 2 EST on Wednesday, March 10th, at Fall Creek Cemetery in Gruetli-Laager, TN. Allen Yarbrough, John Boy Blevins, Jonathan Henley, Wayne Wright, Billy Henley, Lamar Clark, and Frankie Webb will serve as pallbearers.
