Dorothy Robbins McCall Grimson Weaver passed away peacefully June 23, 2022, at her home in Brentwood, Tennessee. She was born April 17, 1936, to the late Anna Robbins McCall and the late James Holtzclaw McCall in Chattanooga, Tennessee.She grew up on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, and graduated from Girls' Preparatory School. Her college years were spent at Duke University where she earned a BA degree in English.She then married her college boyfriend Keith Grimson and moved to Illinois. She had three beloved sons with Keith – Jon, Jim and Jeff. While in Illinois she took additional courses at Northwestern University, National College of Education and Northern Illinois University, earning her Masters in Education in Library Science and Instructional Media. Dorothy served on the Glenview Public Library Board for six years and the North Suburban Library System Board for two years.Dorothy taught at Evanston High School, Marillac High School and lastly at Lake Bluff Junior High School. After retiring from her library position she continued teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) for Adults at Highland Park High School at night for more than 20 years.Her favorite jobs ranged from selling souvenirs at Rock City Gardens as a teenager, teaching ESL, and being a Confidential Intermediary for Illinois reuniting more than 50 birth families.Dorothy's sons, the three J's, were her proudest accomplishments, and she took great joy in their successes.She remained in Illinois during her marriage to Walter Weaver and became involved with The Grove, a National Historic Landmark.She moved to The Heritage at Brentwood, Tennessee in 2008 and happily enjoyed her senior years there.Dorothy is survived by her sister, Judy Moser, Cane Ridge, TN and Tappahannock, VA; her sons Jon Grimson (Cynthia), Nashville, TN; Jim Grimson (Jeanne), Williamsburg, VA; Jeffrey Grimson (Joan), Great Falls, VA; six grandchildren Rose, Tommy, Jack, Julia, Jacqueline and Julianna Grimson; a stepdaughter Laura Weaver, and several nieces and nephews.A graveside gathering will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37409 at 1pm EDT (12pm CDT) on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
