Edwin T. Castleberry

Edwin T. Castleberry, Jr, 96, went to be with Jesus on May 14, 2022. The longtime resident of Hixson, TN passed away at home with his family by his side.

Mr. Castleberry was born November 16, 1925, in Bessemer, Alabama to Ed and Velma Castleberry.

After graduating from Ider High School, he was drafted into the Army in 1944 and served during World War II. He was aboard a troop transport in the middle of the Pacific when the Japanese surrendered at the end of the war.

Moving from Sand Mountain, AL to Chattanooga he worked at the DuPont plant in Chattanooga for 33 years and it was there he met his wife, Jeanette. Married for 68 years they have two children, Greg, and Karen.

After a stint of playing college baseball, he played industrial league softball for many years before turning his athletic interests to golf.

A great husband and father, he was active (and a charter) member of Memorial Baptist Church, Hixson for 40 plus years, before later attending Dallas Bay Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, Maurice Nolan Castleberry and sister, Frances Castleberry Purcell.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Melissa Castleberry; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Castleberry Hill and David Hill; granddaughters and husbands, Lindsay Castleberry Rutland and Geoff Rutland, Katy Clark and Nathan Clark; granddaughter, Brooke Rowan; grandson, Noah Rowan; 4 great-grandchildren, Reece, Addie, Mae and Casper and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 12 noon in the chapel of Legacy Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors being observed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 11:30 a.m. until 12 noon in the funeral home.
