Charles Whidden

Charles “Chuck” Whidden, 90, of Collegedale, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021. A native of Bowling Green, FL, he has been a resident of Collegedale 37 years, and was a former City Councilman for the City of Collegedale. He was a member and former Deacon of the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Chuck was a retired manager with Publix Food Stores in Tampa, FL and also served as the manager of the Village Market in Collegedale. He was also a long time member of the Ooltewah Collegedale Kiwanis Club, serving many years as the Interclub Chairman. He was also a member of the Collegedale VFW Post #1697, the American Legion #257.

He was the son of the late Jessie Lee and Elizabeth Dennis Whidden and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Callahan; granddaughter, Angela Ensley and a brother, Vernon Whidden.

Survivors include his wife, Jewel Whidden; daughter, Deborah (Owen) Maupin; son, Dennis James (Gale) Whidden and Bruce Edward (Christine) Whidden; sister, Mary (Tom) Duncan; brothers, LeeRoy (Barbara) Whidden, Tracy (Carol) Whidden and Michael (Marta) Whidden; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Samaritan Center in Ooltewah.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor David Smith officiating. Interment will be in Collegedale Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm Thursday at the church before the service.

Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
