George Oscar Turnipseed

LAFAYETTE - George Oscar Turnipseed age 82, went home to be with The Lord Saturday – October 1, 2022. He was born in Rock Spring, Georgia to the late James Bryant and Myrtis Lee Shields Turnipseed. He had resided most of his life in Walker County, Georgia. He was a member of Lake Howard Baptist Church and enjoyed going to local nursing homes and preaching The Gospel. He enjoyed traveling, going to Trade Day in Summerville, he never met a stranger, eating at The Dari-Dip in LaFayette and most of all enjoying spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He was a former employee of Standard Coosa Thatcher, R.R. Donnelley Company, Nashville Tea Company and retired from Ricoh Chemical Company after many years of employment. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Johnnie Marie Turnipseed and brother: Rev. James Elmer Turnipseed. He was a devoted husband to his wife: Sarah Lois Murdock Turnipseed of LaFayette, GA, their children: Kathy (Eric) Smith of Chickamauga, GA, Karen Durham of Ringgold, GA, Kenny Swanson of LaFayette, GA, siblings: Nancy (Johnny) Maddox of Rock Spring, GA, Norma Ruth Turnipseed of Collinsville, AL, Wayne Franklin (Sue) Turnipseed of Rock Spring, GA, Lebron (Sandy) Turnipseed of Ringgold, GA, Tommy (Gena) Turnipseed of Graysville, TN, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm – Wednesday and after 11:00 am Thursday prior to the service. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm – Thursday – October 6, 2022 in the chapel with Pastors: Wayne Pace and Benny Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at LaFayette Memory Gardens.
