Jack Smartt

ROCK SPRING - Of the many things Jack Smartt built during his lifetime, his family was probably the structure that gave him the greatest pride. Jack Dennis Smartt died on March 15, 2023, at age 92. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence White Smartt; daughter Gail Smartt Reed (John); grandchildren Alison Law (Zach), Adam Smartt, Ashley Condra (Dwayne), and Anna Higdon (Dustin); great-granddaughters Aryn and Dovie; sister Jo Ann Stevens; and many more beloved relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Louis Smartt; sister Billie Smartt Wade; and son Phillip Dennis Smartt. Brother Smartt was a proud Freemason for more than 60 years. He was initiated, passed, and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason at East Ridge Lodge No. 755 in 1962, where he remained a member in good standing for the rest of his life. He is a 32° Scottish Rite Mason and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine. Continuing the family legacy, he proudly served as the primary recommending Brother for his grandson, Adam, who became a Master Mason at Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 in 2019. Visitation will be held Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m., followed by a chapel service at noon at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction.
