Betty Madeline Ramey Knight Martin

Betty Madeline Ramey Martin, 91, passed away on March 27, 2023, two days short of her ninety-second birthday. She was born into the Great Depression. When she was nine years old, her brother, Leroy John Ramey, was born and just a few weeks later, their mother, Lillie Mae Hamilton Ramey died of a stroke. She graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School, and shortly after met Charles William “Bill” Knight who had just come home from Europe and World War II. They married in 1948. They both worked for Provident Insurance Company until they retired. They attended the Red Bank United Methodist Church every Sunday morning they were able. She was preceded in death by Charles in 1986. She was later married to William B. “Bill” Martin, who passed away in 2014. She is survived by her nephew, William Thomas Ramey; her niece Cerise Lynn (Alan) Grist; step-daughter, Diane (Eileen) Martin; step-son, Roger (Susan) Martin, and David Martin’s wife, Susan. She also has 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her greatly. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday March 30, 2023 in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Ronny Durham, a beloved friend officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, March 29th, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
