The new Casa Mexicana is divided into several rooms, including a separate bar. Comfortable booths allow diners to keep to themselves, as sound from music and overhead TVs reminds them they're hardly alone.
Maybe we're just suckers for personal space, but Casa Mexicana's food seemed better to us too.
It also seemed to come out faster. So ordering appetizers - like the thick, harmonious guacamole ($3.05 small, $5.80 large) or the smooth, slightly spicy cheese dip ($3.05 small, $5.80 large) - isn't necessary, even if it's enjoyable.
The free salsa, packed with tomato flavor and a hint of heat, and chips will keep mouths plenty occupied in the few minutes - one of our meals took barely five - it takes to receive plates.
What takes the longest at Casa Mexicana is deciding what to order from the extensive reading material (including a glossary and pronunciation guide) that makes up the menu, which is divided into salads, fajitas, combination dinners, specialties, beef dinners, shrimp and fish dinners, and chicken dinners.
Entree prices range from $5.50 to $13.15. Lunch combinations, served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, run from $4.30 to $7.60. Child plates like tacos, chicken fingers and taco salads are $2.85 to $5.30.
