Good For You: Freedoms Foundation will honor Jericho Brass musicians

The Chattanooga chapter of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge will award four members of the Jericho Brass the George Washington National Honor Medal.

The presentation will be made Sunday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel Corps, 1019 North Moore Road. The event will include a concert by the Jericho Brass and the presentation of other awards.

The award is in recognition of the "Defenders of Liberty" multimedia presentation, which premiered in 2009. The four men who will receive the award along with the Jericho Brass Band are Dan Hanson, Skip Houck, Frank Hale and Tracy Street.

Hanson composed the original piece of music, which includes hints of well-known patriotic and military songs. Houck penned a tribute describing those who originally fought for freedom on these shores as well as those who continue to fight for freedom around the world.

Street created the accompanying slide show, which takes viewers from the Revolutionary War through Afghanistan. Hale is the director of the brass band.
