Volkswagen of America Inc. on Tuesday said April sales rose 23 percent over a year ago, posting its best sales month in almost eight years.
The company sold 28,542 units in April. Year-to-date sales are up 17 percent, according to VW.
“We are gaining traction in the U.S. market,” said Jonathan Browning, chief executive of Volkswagen of America.
Volkswagen Jetta sales totaled 16,955 – a 74 percent increase over last year.
VW has started assembling the all-new Passat in Chattanooga with plans to start selling it in the third quarter.
