Foothill Drive, a bluegrass band composed of Japanese musicians, will perform Saturday night at The Camp House as part of the Forever Bluegrass series of concerts produced by Cindy Pinion.

Pinion first met mandolin player and group leader Hiroki Maeta a decade ago when he attended one of her annual Boxcar Pinion bluegrass festivals. He was a student studying music in Nashville and attended the festival to hear good bluegrass, he said.

Maeta, 36, said via text messaging from Japan that his band features mostly younger players.

"They are all 25 and sometimes call me 'Grandpa,'" he said.

Maeta grew up playing classical piano but found the music a little too boring. He branched out into rock and then bluegrass.

The band plays primarily in and around Hiroshima, where they live, he said.
