The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. Salsa, or you'll be claiming a mortal blow when some tiny piece of it is taken out, but the rest stands.

Besides, that provision itself is subject to review, and with Sheriff Joe Arpaio still in office, abuses are practically inevitable.

I'm more disappointed in the Montana ruling though. Doesn't Scalia believe in state's rights for spending on political speech? Apparently not.

THEY MAY NOT HAVE THAT LAST LEG TO STAND ON

Not only did the Supremes knock down three parts of the Arizona immigration law, they did not endorse the fourth part, either.

"It was improper to enjoin," the ruling says, "Before the state courts had an opportunity to construe it..."

The Supreme Court reserves the right to review the 'papers please' provisio at a later date. Hardly an endorsement. Not the rubber stamp 'Okay!' so many tea baggers have come to expect.

Regardless, this Court is still viewed by many Americans as a conservative judiciary with a biased politcal agenda.

What I found most interesting was the almost immediate press release from the Department of Homeland Security, stating that their intention was to instruct Immigration Enforcement personnel to prioritize the removal of criminals and people deemed threats to national security over immigrants with no criminal records.

Immigration officials are making it clear that while they will check the immigration status of a person arrested when a police officer contacts them for that information, don't expect them to take custody of the person or expect them to take any action to deport them if an illegal does not fit the high priority category.

In other words, Arizona law enforcement departments may be allowed to ask whether or not someone is in the country illegally all day long, but unless the illegal immigrant in front of them has a prior criminal record on file, Federal Immigration folks are basically saying, "We're not comin' to get 'em. Turn 'em loose."

Soooooo...Arizona's win is still pretty much a loss all the way around.

Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah passed similar legislation in their states mimicking Arizona's SB 1070, so it's back to the drawing board in all six States too.

Alprova,to follow up on your post,Arizona Cannot Detain People Simply Because They Might Be Undocumented: Although the opinion does not strike down the “show me your papers” provision, it significantly lessens the harm caused by this provision. SB 1070 provides that “[a]ny person who is arrested shall have the person’s immigration status determined before the person is released,” but the Court warns the state not to apply this provision literally if it wants to avoid running headlong into the Constitution:

Detaining individuals solely to verify their immigration status would raise constitutional concerns. And it would disrupt the federal framework to put state officers in the position of holding aliens in custody for possible unlawful presence without federal direction and supervision. The program put in place by Congress does not allow state or local officers to adopt this enforcement mechanism.

But §2(B) could be read to avoid these concerns. To take one example, a person might be stopped for jaywalking in Tucson and be unable to produce identification. The first sentence of §2(B) instructs officers to make a “reasonable” attempt to verify his immigration status with ICE if there is reasonable suspicion that his presence in the United States is unlawful. The state courts may conclude that, unless the person continues to be suspected of some crime for which he may be detained by state officers, it would not be reasonable to prolong the stop for the immigration inquiry.

Although the Court technically does not reason a decision on this question, under today’s opinion, prolonging a person’s detention simply to verify their immigration status is almost certainly not allowed. http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/06/25/505672/four-takeaways-from-todays-arizona-immigration-decision/

Obama’s DREAM Initiative Is Legal: Finally, as Judd Legum notes, the opinion strongly hints that the Obama Administration’s directive allowing undocumented college students and veterans to remain in the country is lawful. Indeed, on page 17 of the opinion, the Court explicitly lists “a veteran” or a “college student” as two examples of undocumented immigrants who should not experience “unnecessary harassment.”

In the end, the Obama Administration got 85 percent of what it asked for from the Supreme Court today, plus an unexpected lift to its newly announced immigration directive. Three of SB 1070′s four challenged provisions were struck down, and the remaining provision was significantly limited. Moreover, it is possible that a subsequent challenge could invalidate show me your papers for good. The Court leaves open the possibility that future constitutional challenges to this provision could strike it down.http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/06/25/505672/four-takeaways-from-todays-arizona-immigration-decision/

A quick Google search finds that the blogosphere is going nuts in mulling over the possibility that it could happen, but none of the Justices have announced retirement plans any time soon, so then it comes down to an Obama nomination being a possibility if any of them were to pass away.

Chief Justice John Roberts is 57 years old. Antonin Scalia is 76 years old. Anthony M. Kennedy turns 75 years old next month. Clarence Thomas just celebrated his 64th birthday. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 79 years old. Stephen G. Breyer turns 74 years old later this year. Samuel Anthony Alito is 62 years old. Sonia Sotomayor celbrated her 58th birthday yesterday. Elena Kagan, the youngest Justice, is 52 years old.

Chances are slim that any of them would die over the next four and a quarter years, but any or all of them certainly could. One never knows when their time will come.

Hillary will get to replace a couple or more when she takes the reins in 2017.

In theory anyway. Reality for Hispanics in Arizona is far different. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is already thumping his chest in defiance in front of any camera shoved in his face, declaring that he's not going to change a thing.

"Although the opinion does not strike down the “show me your papers” provision, it significantly lessens the harm caused by this provision."

Law enforcement can ask, but no one is required to have any documentation on their person. If asked, all they have to do is to simply state that they don't have any papers on them.

"Detaining individuals solely to verify their immigration status would raise constitutional concerns. And it would disrupt the federal framework to put state officers in the position of holding aliens in custody for possible unlawful presence without federal direction and supervision."

Then Arpaio is going to face a slew of new Federal charges.

"The program put in place by Congress does not allow state or local officers to adopt this enforcement mechanism."

Which is why there's going to be a flurry of new lawsuits filed in short order.

"But §2(B) could be read to avoid these concerns. To take one example, a person might be stopped for jaywalking in Tucson and be unable to produce identification. The first sentence of §2(B) instructs officers to make a “reasonable” attempt to verify his immigration status with ICE if there is reasonable suspicion that his presence in the United States is unlawful. It will be tested many times over the coming months, watch and see.

With ICE rescinding Arizona's 287G partnership privileges, which effectively denies Arizona law enforcement from accessing databases containing any information as to the immigration status of any person in front of an officer, the "key element that still stands" is pointless, unenforceable, and nullified.

AL,

This is an interesting thought from The Huffington Post:

"The ruling in at least one specific sense could be a boon to the Obama campaign. Since possession of a valid driver's license is, under the Arizona law, sufficient proof of citizenship, the ruling will force legal residents and citizens to get them if they don't have them.

There's no better place to run a registration drive than at or near a DMV. Most of those voters are likely to be Democrats, or at least Obama supporters."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/25/sb-1070-opinion-scotus-obama-romney-latinos_n_1624417.html

It might be a stretch but I could see this happening. This could help Obama tremendously by getting more, likely, Democratic voters in the booths in Arizona (a red state in 2008).

blonde,

Jan Brewer has every reason to put up a front about this. 3/4 provisions were voted down. 25% success rate is not good. At least you're happy though, right?

Thursday, the Supreme Court might strike down the individual mandate but keep everything else. I could see that happening. But, like I've said before, I bet you don't know the slightest thing about Obamacare. You just don't like anything Obama is for.

I never said anything about people with Mexican ancestry or lawlessness. Only you say that. And I would guess that the immigrants in Arizona would likely not vote Republican considering that the Arizona Immigration Lawm that would have treated them as second rate citizens, was a Republican law. It was even labeled a "model" law by Willard Mitt Romney. I'm sure some will vote Romney, but the vast majority of immigrants and latinos will vote for Obama. And I also never claimed to be a spokesman for anyone other than myself.

I'm sure it's difficult reading for someone like you. You try to discredit my link because you don't agree with it. Good for you if you believe Huff Post is biased. Frankly, I don't care what you think.

I have decided to discredit everything you say after your "Poor people don't pay taxes" statement yesterday.

Easy, Mitt has been predictably quiet on the news of the SCOTUS Arizona immigration law ruling. As Huffington Post points out, he loses votes no matter which way he goes on that one.

Maybe he'll have more to say on Thursday.

It might be a big week, this week, for the President after all.

June 26, 2012 at 3:09 a.m.
Easy123 said...

alprova,

It is definitely a huge week for Obama. Romney is caught between a rock and a hard spot. He's already in hot water with immigrant/latino voters anyway. But today's SCOTUS action to strike down most of the AZ immigration law is a huge blow. He can't keep skirting this issue. Romney is going to have to take a stand on immigration one way or the other but, like you said, either way he goes, he is going to lose votes. I expect a statement from the Romney camp or Romney himself by the end of the week addressing an immigration policy directly. He better hurry though because Obama trampling him on this issue.

But since we were talking about the big vote on Thursday, take a look at this study on Obamacare:

http://www.kff.org/kaiserpolls/upload/8285-F.pdf

Refer to page 10 and the chart labeled: FAVORABILITY OF SPECIFIC ELEMENTS OF ACA

It would seem that members of both parties find many of the provisions to be "appealing", as the study says.

I hope Obamacare gets passed, at least the majority of it. I've studied it over the past couple days and it looks really good from my point of view.

We will have an answer from the SCOTUS on Thursday. Exciting!

http://video.foxnews.com/v/1706813789001

"Thursday the Supreme Court will strike down the mandate."

I wouldn't bet on that if I were you. The Justices of the Supreme Court are a bit more pragmatic when debating an issue and quite reasonable when making important decisions.

Jack_Dennis wrote: "We have a president that is gleeful about not enforcing U.S. laws. What's wrong with this picture?"

As much as I hear this same sentiment expressed on a daily basis, especially since his announcement last week in regard to halting the deportation of illegal immigrants who came here as children, there are many good reasons why immigration laws on the books are not enforced. And it's not the President's fault either. Permit me to illustrate yet another reason;

Many Americans are up in arms over out-of-control spending and the National Debt.

According to the Center for American Progress, it costs an average of $23,480 to apprehend, detain, house and feed, legally process, and to then ultimately transport each illegal immigrant to their country of origin.

People are equally concerned with unfunded legislative mandates, and illegal immigration enforcement is one of them. It would cost an estimated $469 billion to deport every illegal immigrant in the United states.

The President's 2013 Budget request for ICE totals $5.3 billion.

Who's going to pay to deport them? It would cost every LEGAL American who lives in the United States, $1,486.00 to fund such a movement to deport all illegals in this country.

So to all of you people who whine, complain, stomp your feet, and point your fingers at the Gov't and of course, at President Obama for "not enforcing immigration laws," consider writing a check to the Gov't to help pay for the kind of enforcement you are demanding, and THEN you will be righteously entitled to do so.

The thing is the United States is letting them in legally and permanent. Come on this is 2012 not 1920. We can't even take care of our American Vets, but we are going to bring a plane load of Kurds, Iraqi's ETC. The tax payers pay for them. They can't speak engish and are a drain on the American TaxPayer. Take care of Americans born in this country FIRST!!!

Mexico is connected to America and that should be dealt with but i'd rather have that problem than these others that freeload and take easy as pie loans with free business tax rates for years, to own stores and motels, how about letting an American have a easy to get tax free loan!!!! If you want to help a country , keep them there and help them, don't bring them here, its insane!! better yet , if you want them here, move them next door and in your hood, Churches and the refugee federal "grant" program and pay for them and KEEP THEM OFF THE DOLE!!!

Our Vets are sleeping under bridges, Cut the grant for the Chatt. Refugee Center and give it to AMERICANS Homeless!!

You're full of crap. It never happened.

If, and I do mean if, a person of East Indian descent bought a Bait and Tackle store about a mile from you, it was purchased with private funds out of the person's own pockets that he brought here when he immigrated from India, or a family member or friend already established in the United States, is bankrolling him.

What did not happen is that the Gov't granted or loaned him a penny, nor are they going to give him any tax breaks not equal to that which is extended to any American who might purchase the business, for so much as one day.

"we need to pass it so we can see what's in it" - Nancy Pelosi

Easy, you mean like that?

The Democrat Party believes that citizens of Mexican ancestry are all ok with Mexican citizens breaking into the US simply because they share the same ancestry. They lump them all together in one big category. That's why Obama did what he did. Not out of empathy or anything else.

They think they own "black Americans", "Latinos" and women. That's my take on the Democrat Party.

You don't like it? Lump it.

June 26, 2012 at 1:53 p.m.

Why shouldn't I disagree with Obama on what he believes and what he's trying to do if I think it's not in the best interests of the country. Do you have a problem with that?

We all don't have the same ideology or political philosophy or whatever.

Our borders have been weak for a long time, long before Obama, but the venom he's shown toward the state of Arizona, all in the name of securing the "Mexican vote", is pretty nauseating. The president doesn't give a hoot about the citizens of Arizona and what they're going through.

So yes I would love to return to the Bush years versus the Hussein Obama years.

Easy - why do you call joneses post propaganda? Let's look at it by your link's definition.

"Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position". Does he influence your position? I doubt it.

"Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media in order to create the chosen result in audience attitudes". Have you seen this anywhere else today, and did it create a chosen result in your attitude? I doubt it.

"Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or uses loaded messages to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented". What did he lie about, and I know you wouldn't admit that it produced an emotional response from you.

Exhibit A: See Joneses post at 4:20 p.m. - a well thought out response to the statement from Obama that he didn't want to return to the Bush years.

Actually, I wasn't too crazy about Bush either, but those days seem pretty good now.

And shen, I could see Obama not making a big deal about something the KKK did like that now, couldn't you? LMAO

And what about joneses other mention of the Black Panthers publicly announcing a bounty on someone's head? I noticed no mention from you pertaining to that.

Of course you do. You resent people who do not look like yourself, or who are have differing cultural habits. Thus, you want to pass on your prejudices to others.

"Bankrolled by a person established in the U.S., well ain't that dandy, looks like they are being banked by the millions, bring the whole damn country over, after all we are a country of complete stupidity."

When it comes right down to it, what they do is none of your business. You do have every right to not do any business with them, if you so desire.

The source of the money that is used to purchase businesses in this country is their business. It will never be money that comes from your pocket or that of any other American, or handed to them from the Gov't, as you first alleged.

"If i'm wrong i'll admit it, OK.and i will find out the truth. I never called you full of crap and if and i mean if they bought a Bait and Tackle means you are calling me a liar."

I don't challenge your assertion that the Bait and Tackle was sold to someone of East Indian descent. The money used to purchase it was simply privately supplied, and didn't come from the Gov't.

"The Health Dept.has an Indian population having to be treated for TB. I guess i'm full of crap on that too."

I wouldn't know one way or the other as to how many people of a particular race are infected with Tuberculosis.

A quick check however, shows that in 2011, 3,500 Hispanics, 3,100 Asians, and 1,758 lily white people across the country received treatment for Turbuculosis. It's not a disease limited to just East Indians.

"I guess you are all for bringing in every poor refugee this country will insanely take and put on the backs of working taxpayers."

I look at the issue a bit more realistically. I could waste my time ranting about a bunch of stuff that I have neither the control to influence or to prevent, but instead, I choose to accept and to deal with that for which decisions are made without any input from myself.

In other words, it's out of my hands.

Chatt_man,

Let's review. You have omitted key words. You're argument is ignorant.

"Propaganda is a form of communication that IS AIMED AT INFLUENCING the attitude of a community toward some cause or position".

That was Joneses aim.

"Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media IN ORDER TO A CREATE the chosen result in audience attitudes".

I have seen other propaganda from Joneses and he uses his rhetoric in order to create a chosen attitude.

"Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or USES LOADED MESSAGES TO PRODUCE AN EMOTIONAL RATHER THAN RATIONAL RESPONSE to the information presented".

Joneses is trying to get a rise out of us. And the information was presented out of context, intentionally skewed to make Bush sound good.

Either you don't understand "propaganda" or you are ignorant. Or both, I guess. Joneses has presented nothing but empty rhetoric. He is an Obama basher. He views everything Obama does as bad and anything a Republican does as good. You even admitted that you weren't a fan of Bush. I would guess that you are a Republican, why don't you have the same man-crush on Bush as Joneses?

Okey Dokey. If you say so.

I can only go on what you have posted today, and apparently you hold some rather questionable prejudices regarding people who come here from other countries, for you have expressed several of those prejudices today.

You think that Tuberculosis in America is attributable to the presence of East Indians. You think that "Middle Eastern, India, China, Paki, Africa, Iraq, Iran ETC" are brought here as "refugees" and them and all of their families wind up "on the dole."

That's not true for all people who fall into those groups you mention either, but it would be true to say that there are people from several countries who have been extended refugee status, who are brought to the United States, and who have received public assistance by the Gov't until they get on their feet.

None of them have been extended grants or loans by the Gov't to put themselves into business or any tax breaks not extended to any American citizen. Refugees receive temporary funds to provide necessities, to house and feed themselves, and job placement assistance and/or training.

"You know nothing about me and i have the right to my opinion on immigration and you think you know it all and can slander me without a second thought, that says a lot about you!!!"

You are right that you are entitled to your opinion, but you do not have a right to present stated facts that are simply not true, and your claim that an East Indian bought a store with Gov't (taxpayer) money could never be true, no matter what. It's a myth, plain and simple.

"You need to give it a rest."

Fair enough. Look at my first response. I tried to be very nice to you. It was never my intent to have this degenerate into a full-blown argument.

You, on the other hand, need to quit telling tall tales that you present as being factual in nature, when you do not know them to be 100% true, and can prove them to be indeed, facts.

Is that your opinion, or are you presenting it as a statement of fact?

Either way, you have no evidence whatsoever that can be used to substantiate such a statement.

You are not afforded a glimpse into the minds of any or all people who lean left in terms of their personal, political belief(s).

And because you cannot read people's thoughts, and because there exists no evidence that people who differ in political belief contrary to your own, collectively and personally express any such sentiment as a matter of routine, any claim on your part that "lefty's" hold any disdain toward women who are not left-leaning, your opinion or presented fact is totally baseless and without merit.

Given the typical posting content that you offer in here, as a matter of routine, I could more than justify stating that you have trouble understanding why there are people who disagree with you in their opinions of the current President of the United States.

You're forever demanding people to justify THEIR opinions. How about a short statement from you, explaining why you think that everyone should agree with you and your adopted political beliefs?

What can you present that would convince me that I should return to supporting candidates who are Republican/Conservative, who are running for office or who are currently in elected positions within of our Federal Gov't?

BBND wrote in response to my statement: "you do not have a right to present stated facts that are simply not true"

BBND: "Are you kidding me? Who the heck do you think you are, Alprova?"

Who am I? I am simply a person who encourages people to adopt a habit of separating their opinions from false presentations of fact.

"He most certainly does have a right to present anything he wants, whether it's correct or not."

I see. So, by your presentation of that statement, I am to gather you hold the opinion that people have a right to bear false witness?

"It's called free speech."

One may well have a right under the U.S. Constitution to relate untruths in this forum, but any right to free speech does not guarantee anyone a right to offer an untruth unchallenged.

"You don't have to listen or give it your time, but he most certainly does have a right."

But an intentionally or ignorantly presented falsehood does indeed capture my attention. I also consider it a constructive use of my time to correct potentially harmful and misleading false presentations, because people deserve to know the truth and knowing the truth helps stop ignorance in its tracks.

"Boy, do you have an overblown view of yourself and your presence in here."

That is merely your opinion, and not a fact, and as such, you have every right to express it unchallenged.

The Ten Commandments can be found in Exodus, Chapter 20 of the Bible. The Ninth Commandment prohibits the bearing of false witness against your neighbor. You can chide me all you want and size it up any way you choose, but my correcting misinformation presented as fact, when it is anything but, I consider a keeping of God's commandment that we be truthful.

"Wow"

Indeed.

"You're phony, as is Obama."

Opinions are not facts.

"He's willing to spit on the Constitution, weaken our borders even more, and harm citizens, all for the sake of possibly getting more "Mexican American" votes."

Didn't we cover this the other day? Not one person has come close to proving that the President has violated so much as one provision contained within the Constitution. The rest of your accusations are equally unsubstantiated as well, other than statements of opinion.

They believe American citizens of Mexican ancestry are ok with illegal aliens breaking into the US. They think they're ok with lawlessness, therefore they'll vote for Obama. That's racist. Why should American citizens of Mexican ancestry, who pay taxes, be ok with illegal aliens flooding into the country, and in many cases, commit crimes?

Just because they share a common ancestry?

Very arrogant and racist strategy pushed by Obama.

I really just don't get it. What am I missing? We have the technology and the unemployed manpower to build a solid stone fence 30 feet high 20 feet wide topped with razor wire and patrolled with armed personnel in humvees driving along the top.It could be built from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It would employ thousands or more likely tens of thousands for several years and STOP THE FLOW OF ILLEGALS INTO OUR COUNTRY! These same people could then be used to shore up our crumbling infrastructure. Or they could begin working on our northern border.Once this is done we could begin to sift through the people who are currently here illegally and return the undesirable ones to their country of origin. And before you libs have a stroke the undesirable people I speak of are the gang members and other criminal aliens who are wandering around our country. At that point we could begin working on a way to help the rest get U.S. citizenship or work visa's.China did just this thousands of years ago,why can't we do it now?

Oh I've been wrong before. I'm as human as you are.

"I was wrong about Gov. loans for Aliens. It has been told to me by Business and other people. I have never owned or sold a business, so i believed them."

People have been making this claim for years. There is not a shred of truth being told whenever it has been repeated.

"As for Indians and Iranian's being bankrolled to come into the US and take over our stores and Motels should be curtailed, you call that prejudice, i call it common sense."

Why? I happen to have met many of these people over the years, and have found them to be decent enough people, who come here for the opportunities that exist in this country.

They don't "take over" anything. They purchase businesses legally and lawfully and operate them to support their families, utilizing our system of capitalism just like Americans do.

"As for TB, i know the head of the Health Dept. and TB among the Indian population leads in every ethnic group in TN., but hey everyone tells tall tales on here but you."

What's your point? Tuberculosis is a disease that indiscriminately infects human beings of all races who come in contact with it. Tuberculosis has been present in humans since antiquity. In the year 2012, due to medical advances, it is a very curable disease.

The National Institute of Health reports that African-Americans have infections of chlamydia at rates nearly nine times higher than Caucasians. Should we "curtail" their presence in this country too as a means to deal with that disease?

"If i'm wrong, i will admit it, but you are wrong on the refugee's only being on temporary welfare."

Let's be clear. I stated that a minority of people who come here as refugees are welfare cases, long term. The majority of them integrate themselves into our society as productive people who find jobs, rent or buy homes, pay taxes, etc.

Now that is a verifiable fact. Look it up.

"Oh, you trid to be nice, yeah right. Try again, you arrogant fence straddler."

You're mad because I pointed out the simple fact that a claim you made was not true. Rather than to back off of your claim, you're still trying to hang on to it.

"I got to go to work, i can't spend my life on this thread day and night looking things up to denigrate people,in which you seem to enjoy a little to much, get a life!!!"

It was never my intention to "denigrate" you, nor do I believe for one second that I have done so by pointing out that what you offered was a bit of misinformation.

Say it a thousand times. It is still a lie. No one with any sense at all believes that all people agree on anything or everything, or that all people who share a particular race vote the same way.

Why would they be? Barack Obama has never claimed to be on board with what Conservatives seek from a candidate.

"Besides a few latino's, where are the masses running TO Obama?"

A more relevant point would be to say that with a few isolated exceptions, the people who supported him in 2008 are still supporting him now.

He's currently leading in every one of the swing states in the polls, which means that apparently, for now at least, there is sufficient evidence that there are indeed people other than Democrats who are more apt to vote for him than Mitt Romney.

"He's always had the welfare food stampers on his side."

Is that really a relevant statistic you just offered? The poor support Democrats over Republicans almost exclusively because they know which party is more likely to fight to keep programs that assist them in place, and which party is more likely to throw them into the water to sink or swim, if given half a chance.

"Will he run on his terrific record?"

On the things that as President, and that he has control over, you bet your hind end that he can and will run on his record thus far.

He ended (albeit later than sooner) the U.S. involvement in Iraq.

Took over the reins of the bailout for the U.S. automobile industry and scored a touchdown by preserving 2 million jobs.

Returned the U.S. policy regarding torture of prisoners back into compliance with Geneva convention standards.

Restarted nuclear proliferation talks with much of the rest of the world.

Reengaged in negotiating agreements and talks with respect to global warming and greenhouse gas emissions.

Eased restrictions on travel to Cuba.

Moved to close off-shore tax havens, including entering into negotiations with the Swiss Government to assist in the identification and prosecution of tax evaders and criminals who stash money there.

Closed tax loopholes that were previously exploited by corporations that outsourced jobs, and at the same time instituting tax breaks to corporations that bring jobs back to this country.

Instituted a moratorium, demanding that power plants produce 15% of their energy from renewable sources.

Closed the "coverage gap" further for prescription drugs through his health care reform plan, often referred to as Obamacare.

Ended prior administrations policy of forbidding Medicare from negotiating with drug manufacturers for cheaper drugs.

The list goes on and on....

The poor support Democrats over Republicans almost exclusively because they know which party is more likely to fight to keep programs that assist them in place, and which party is more likely to throw them into the water to sink or swim, if given half a chance."

Al, the dems should be shamed by creating the culture of the govt assistance, food stamps, etc. 40+ years of this has just about bankrupted the country. It's beyond me how any minority could thank the Dems for consigning them to a dependent status. Now they (dems) want to do the same with the hispanics. Here's hoping this grouping won't fall for the same ole shiz.

Is that a fact? While we could debate the issue until the end of time, people who have your take on the situation have probably never had to worry where your next meal was going to come from, or where you were going to lay your head down at night, or have had to endure the utter frustration of being turned down for a decent job over and over and over.

I haven't either, but the difference between you and myself, is that I know that there is a reality that exists for many poor people, where they have no hope or have ever been extended many of the opportunities in life that most of us take for granted.

Yes, there are many who milk the system and who choose to remain in poverty. But most people in that circumstance are prevented from taking steps to rise up and lift themselves into a better life.

You're not a female with two or three small children, who of course made an error in judgment and became pregnant, but it takes two to tango, and there are many men across this nation who made the same error in judgment, but who are not saddled with the consequences of their decisions.

Then you have the disabled, the elderly, the ill and infirmed, those with mental problems, spouses who have died, been killed, or who have abandoned their families. There are all kinds of situations that people fall into, where they cannot help themselves and where assistance is necessary and the right thing to do.

Public assitance should never be permanent or without reviews being conducted on a regular basis to determine whether or not people are doing all they can do to be self-sufficient.

"40+ years of this has just about bankrupted the country."

Not even close. Social programs amount to about 13% of the U.S. Budget.

"It's beyond me how any minority could thank the Dems for consigning them to a dependent status."

That's a totally baseless charge, and you know it. It's nothing short of a Republican talking point. Assisting people in need can never be determined to be "keeping them in their place," or any other connotation used to describe the poor.

"Now they (dems) want to do the same with the hispanics."

But of course, allowing them to stay without the threat of deportation, where they have been since they were children, many of whom have no concept of the country and culture where they were born, is akin to keeping them in their place?

"Here's hoping this grouping won't fall for the same ole shiz."

Say what you will, but given the tone of the Republican/Conservative cheerleading going on in this thread over the issue of Hispanics and immigration, I sure can't imagine any reason whatsoever that they would have for believing that the Democrats are working against them.

Voters certainly knew enough about it to punish Dems in the 2010 midterms, with Obama conceding a “shellacking.”

Yet, if he felt chastened, the feeling quickly passed. Predictions that he would turn to the center proved delusional as he doubled down on a far-left approach to spending, taxes and the size of government. To this day, with America swamped in debt, the military is the only department he wants to cut.

Barack Obama doesn’t listen to anyone who disagrees with him. He sees his election as a blank check that carries near-absolute power and freedom from all restraint. Congress, the courts, voters, whole industries — if they are not with him, they are obstacles that must be crushed or circumvented.

Hubris, like dishonesty, demands an ever greater effort to distort reality. Hence the frenetic campaign to win votes by handing out government goodies. Instead of addressing the economy or any big issue of concern to most Americans, Obama runs as panderer-in-chief to a favored few.

Immigrants, gay rights, government unions, college students, blacks — his campaign is a micro-targeting exercise that slices and dices the country. He offers no solutions for America, only abuses of authority in exchange for four more years. Is there anything he won’t say or do to win?

“If something can’t go on forever, it won’t,” an economist once said. So it is with a president who thinks he is above the law. America has its limits.

tu,

The study wasn't about Republicans/Democrats. It was about the source in which people received their news. And people that watched Fox News were the least informed.

"They asked nine questions and when you compare Republican to Fleabagger the Republicans answered correctly to all of them at a higher percentage than did the Fleabaggers. When you include those that lean Republican or Fleabagger you still have an advantage to the Republicans by six to three."

They counted it as 8 questions. K6 had two parts. (A&B)

And the Republicans/Lean Republicans DID NOT answer correctly to all of the questions at a higher percentage than Democrats/Lean Democrats.

http://publicmind.fdu.edu/2012/confirmed/

Number of Overall Questions answered correctly (refer to page 8):

All 8 questions: Dem/Lean Dem: 12/193 (6.2%) Rep/Lean Rep: 5/188 (2.6%)

The "azz' whipping you speak of is a fabrication. Maybe you misread it or maybe you are just intentionally lying.

LMAO, LMFAO, numb nuts, loser, etc. You can pick which of your commonly used insults to place on yourself. I don't need the ego boosts that you seem to constantly require.

Al: You're either just parroting Dem talking points or just plain in denial. The Dem supported throwing money at the poor strategy is simply an utter failure. Other that pandering (successfully) for voters, it has not worked. Your points about the impoverished are correct. The point you seemingly want to ignore is that there's more than one way to address the problems...one way is more thoughtful and long-term; the other is throw money at it and seek voters. The latter has been very successful for the Dems. Not so much for the poor.

As a matter of FACT i went to the sorce today and asked some questions about Alien's getting loans and such and i retract my earlier statement about them not getting Gov. loans. They not only get Gov. loans and a 5 yr. grace period from paying taxes, they then turn the business over to a cousin after 5 yrs. and start all over again. I believe these people because they have actually sold and done plenty of business with them and the Indian's don't hide the fact either. Sorry but you are wrong!!!

I can tell you this, you can love the hell out of Iranian, Iraqi, Indian, Turk , Paki that come to America all you want, but you are the only person who i have ever heard say it in such defending terms. You better keep this crap you spout on this thread because if you started saying this sh.. in public, you might be tarred and feathered by the good ole American boys who work and defended this country and that includes hispanic's who join the Military. Have you ever seen an Iranian in the Army or a Indian, you want!!! Talk to a Military guy about bringing every ethnic group you can fit in our country and you will be ................. "As of February 2008, there were 359 service members born in Western Asia and 826 born in south-central Asia.

Of all foreign-born active duty personnel, 359 armed services members were born in Western Asia. For example, there were 97 from Iran; 50 from Lebanon; 45 from Saudi Arabia; 40 from Israel; 32 from Iraq; 29 from Jordan; 28 from Kuwait; and 13 from Syria.

From south-central Asia, for instance, there were 390 foreign born from India; 125 from Pakistan; 69 from Bangladesh; 49 from Nepal; and 27 from Afghanistan."

You and whichever 'good ol' boys' are idiots if they believe the way you do. You have told an outright lie. Immigrants fight in every branch of the United States armed forces. You and your 'good ole American boys' aren't entitled to anything. You just happened to be born in America. It is only by sheer luck that you were born in this great country. How dare you attempt to belittle these other ethnicities. How dare you attempt to discredit or deny their service to the United States. You deserve to be tarred and feathered for your ignorance, bigotry, and xenophobia.

Everyone deserves to live in whichever country, state, etc. they choose. You are entitled to nothing because you were born in America. What location your mother's uterus happened to be when you came out of it is a fluke. You live in a bubble. The smallest, most ignorant little bubble ever conceived by a human mind.

Where is your proof? Did you poll them? We are all immigrants or related to immigrants. Unless you are a Native American.

"These good ole boys keep your electric, water and every kind of work one can imagine going."

So does any other person of any other ethnicity. I guess you think everyone that works for the EPB, water company, etc. is a "good ole boy". How narrow-minded of you.

"They don't sit at a computer all day like you and AL telling outright lies and don't pull up the links, they mean nothing."

You are sitting at a computer as well. You are the liar. I pointed that out and proved it with my last post. And the links mean everything as well as disprove your claims. Your opinion, however, means nothing AND is completely fictitious.

"You lost the fight idiot when you called me pot smoking cat, you don't have a clue."

Is this backwards day or something? I pointed out your lie and you won't even admit to it. You must be on some type of illicit drug or mentally deficient to believe and say the things you have posted on here. You, sir, are the epitome of clueless; ignorant, misinformed, and xenophobic as well.

It isn't happening, regardless of what your "sorce" says. The U.S Gov't does not loan money to East Indians for the purpose of buying so much as a paper bag, nor are they extended special tax breaks for so much as one day.

I can't prove a negative, or in this case, something that isn't happening. However, if it were indeed going down as you claim, you should have no trouble finding and posting links to prove that it is.

So, if you will, please post a link to the Gov't website that outlines the Gov't program that allows East Indians, or people of any other nationality, to apply to the U.S, Gov't for these mythical loans.

Then please post the link to the proper IRS publication that describes this mythical tax exemption and the relevant lines on form 1040, or on form Schedule C, or the special tax form that allows anyone of East Indian descent, or again any other nationality, to file for an exemption to pay any taxes not afforded anyone else, for any length of time.

"I can tell you this, you can love the hell out of Iranian, Iraqi, Indian, Turk , Paki that come to America all you want, but you are the only person who i have ever heard say it in such defending terms."

What's your problem? Do you not love the aroma of curry powder?

I'm sure there are many of them. Here...read it for yourself;

You're clearly a very bigoted individual, in complete denial of your bigotry, and quite guilty of passing on some rather old, but nonetheless false and mythical assertions.

I look forward to those links to proof that I asked for. As soon as you supply them, you'll have my apologies for challenging you in short order.

All ya' gotta do is post links to proof that there is such a thing as a Gov't loan program for East Indian immigrants to help them buy businesses in this country, and the relevant IRS information proving that they are given tax breaks not given to any U.S. citizen.

If such evidence existed, it should take you less than five minutes to find it, and then copy and paste the links.

Absolutely not. Easy is 100% correct in his use of the word to describe potcat.

Xen0phobia - an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange.

Here are the highlights;

"I don't care one hoot about a Mexican being in this country. I do care about Middle Eastern, India,China, Paki, Africa, Iraq, Iran ETC."

"The Health Dept.has an Indian population having to be treated for TB. I guess i'm full of crap on that too."

"No they do not deserve to live in any country they want, you fool."

If you don't see a classic case of xenophobia being expressed, or if you happen to agree with what he typed, then you might have a touch of xenophobia too.
