Immigration Reform

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

I strongly believe that immigration reform can change our economic situation. There are lots of people who have money to pay off their education at the best colleges of the country, but unfortunately due to many reasons they do not have either US Resident Citizenship or at least a Permanent Residency. This is sad, because we could have received a money flaw we are so desperately require. That is why I think that yes we need to have a new reform. Maybe it is going to help to improve the economy and ease a pressure of things like online loans ( https://paydayloansat.com/), mortgages and many other important for us things.

You forgot to include the dollar signs on the bricks being pounded in by the guy on the left. "I believe immigration reform can change our economic situation." Oh yeah, the way it's coming about, oh yeah government pays more for people who are here illegally. That's a change. People overall taking more responsibility for their own lives, now that would really change the economic situation. The problem is it would lead to less government reliance which would also change the political situation. And from looking at Washington, at both political parties, they do not want that at all.

Where is your outrage about this POS obastard? Obastard must be in bed with the oil companies and the speculators as he is doing nothing to stop the gas prices from rising. Where is your outrage? Obastard is doing all he can to keep gas prices high by not letting his out of control EPA allow more refineries. It hurts all of us and you POS liberals sit there with your finger up your a$$ praising obastard for the terrible job he is doing while occupying the White House.

What I see every day in the Chattanooga area are usually obese Mexican women, usually with a baby in their arms and two small kids in tow walking to the welfare office. Until our welfare system is reformed, the Mexicans will be another special interest group herded onto the welfare plantation by the Democrat party. This class warfare tactic implemented with tax payer dollars has enabled the Democrats to "capture" the blacks for over fifty years and it is working with the babies out of wedlock Mexicans.

In 2000 I took over Human resourses at my job. Shortly after a young mexican boy came to me and wanted to change his dependents from 1 to 5. Knowing he wasn't married I mentioned he would just have to pay when he filed his taxes. He smiled and said I don't think so. That was a red flag. Turned out he was illegal and was eventually let go along with a few others. You see by claiming 5 he didn't have any taxes taken out, and he didn't file either. So those of you that think we get taxes from these illegal are nuts. I could go on and tell you many more things illegals do but I think you get the gist from this one example. I was just thankful I was not the one to sign the I-9 form for any of them.

As a Human Resource specialist for your company since 2000, you must know that your statement here is not exactly accurate as presented, Degage.

The number of exemptions a person claims is applied toward their federal income tax, but this withholding applies only to the federal income tax, not to Social Security or Medicare taxes.

So the young Mexican boy that came to you was still paying Social Security and Medicare taxes, which means the people you’re referencing are not as nuts as you claim.

Immigrants as a whole always add more to the country than they take away. The ones who pick up their lives and move to a foreign land to better their futures are usually the ones who are hard working and optimistic.

Our bureacratic system for obtaining citizenship is bloated and inefficient. It needs to be fixed. Even W. Bush proposed the same thing. If we are truthful with ourselves, we will admit that most who oppose a kinder and more efficient path to citizenship do so out of fear and xenophobia, not for any of the economic reasons that they usually mention.

Anyone that knows me would tell you I love Hispanics. As a whole I think they are a beautiful people. They have a very rich culture and are very hard working people, again, as a whole. Not to mention I love Mexican food. But it does bother me that we would just allow everyone that is here ILLEGALLY become legal citizens without going thru the proper channels. That only sends the message that we are soft on this area of governing and invites others to come here illegally.

I heard on the radio the other day that Hispanics had overtaken whites in California. I would say we are well on the way to seeing that same thing happen in this area of the south.

That is obviously not the case. Illegal migration/immigration is at net zero. Obama is tougher on illegals than any Republican before him.

Since America’s blue states give a lot more to the federal government in taxes than they get in return, I’d say it’s really fortunate for us red states - who get more in return than we pay in - that these blue states don’t share your attitude about welfare recipients.

Indeed, lets face it, we southern red states are denizens of the most welfare dependent states in the country, and if those blue states abhorred welfare and refused to subsidize our pure hard-working lifestyles, we would be in a whole lot of trouble.

Immigration flows, mostly undocumented, are as old as mankind. I'm sure my ancestor got off the boat without the first bit of paperwork and started looking for a meal...and a job. We came and took the land from those who had lived here and cherished the land and ecology for thousands of years...and we did it illegally!

Now, after years of indirectly encouraging illegals to come and work, some among us want to throw them out, even though they may have lived and worked side by side for decades. That hateful inhumane attitude is contrary to the law of right action...the over-arching law that should govern all human behavior.

Yes, we can and should stop the new arrivals and re-define who we want to welcome and who not, but we also have to find a way to legitimize those who have committed years to a life in America.

The Obama plan, much like the Bush plan a few years back, does that. The Haters are screaming, but that is what they do best. Let them scream, we have a country to repair and hate won't help a thing.

Let's play connect the dots again, this time it's immigration. Start the game with the 2008 election, McCain lost heavily to Barack Obama among Hispanics WHO COULD LEGALLY VOTE NOT AMONG ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO COULDN'T VOTE. IN 2012 MITTENS LOST EVEN MORE VOTES AMONG HISPANICS THAN MCCAIN AND AGAIN IT WAS NOT BECAUSE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WERE VOTING, INSTEAD, IT WAS BECAUSE THE HISPANIC POPULATION DID NOT VOTE FOR ROMNEY BECAUSE OF THE REPUBLICAN STAND ON IMMIGRATION. ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAN'T VOTE BUT THE REPUBLICAN BLOCKAGE OF ANY KIND OF LEGAL IMMIGRATION POLICY SENDS A MESSAGE TO THE KIND OF VOTERS REPUBS NEED TO CONNECT WITH IF THEY EVER HOPE TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE OR RETAIN CONTROL OF CONGRESS IN THE NEAR FUTURE

Marco Rubio gets it, even Turdblossom Rove makes the connection, but others like that Teabag bunch just don't get it and because they don't get it, they will continue to drag their party down into oblivion. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

FYI - As the nation's attention turns back to the fractured debate over immigration, it might be helpful to remember that in 1986, Ronald Reagan signed a sweeping immigration reform bill into law. It was sold as a crackdown: There would be tighter security at the Mexican border, and employers would face strict penalties for hiring undocumented workers.

But the bill also made any immigrant who'd entered the country before 1982 eligible for amnesty — a word not usually associated with the father of modern conservatism.

Please note I have not "assumed" anything. This is my own personal belief. Even tho I have proclaimed my own ignorance in certain things does not mean I am stupid. I work in a hospital that sees a HUGE number of Hispanics come thru. I know many of them to be illegal. Don't ask me how I know,I just do. Doesn't affect how they are treated at the hospital, at least my me, because as I said, I am quite partial to them.

Really and truly I see both sides of the coin. I actually remember what Reagan did and thought it was fair at that point. I could probably live with that again if it comes about but would like to see a system of alowing them to work for it like a legal immigrant would. As one of you articles suggested,"...taking courses in English, studying U.S. history, establishing a history of employment, consistently paying taxes and having a clean criminal record." I think these are very good.

Also, most immigration is legal, crossing the border without permission is breaking the law. It has nothing to do with hate, it has to do with controlling you own borders. Our country is like your house. If your locks don't keep intruders out, then you don't really own your house...they do.

This attempt to use the politically correct terms for these people are almost side-splitting. "Undocumented workers,"the new arrivals," etc., etc, ..they are illegal aliens.

The Republicans are seemingly on board with immigration reform. They are starting to realize that all of their policies are highly unpopular. Republicans will never win another election unless they start trying to build a relationship with the Hispanic population.

"These high minded ideals you espouse are absolutely hypocritical."

You cannot even begin to back that statement up.

"It has nothing to do with hate, it has to do with controlling you own borders."

Then go back to where your ancestors came from and give the land back to the Native Americans. That is the basis of your argument: Punish the children for something their parents did.

"Our country is like your house. If your locks don't keep intruders out, then you don't really own your house...they do."

That is the most non-sensical, ignorant, erroneous simile/hyperbole I've ever read in my entire life.

The reality is there is work in the US that illegals will do, gladly, for minimal pay, no benefits and harsh, even dangerous conditions. Remember when Alabama decided to check immigration status of school children and there was a mass exodus of Hispanics from the state? They could not get unemployed citizens to pick the tomatoes, because the work is too hard and the pay too low (and based on output) Illegals work in construction, slaughter houses and fields, unable to report unsafe conditions, harassment or abuse, and work very hard and very long hours.

As long as there is work to be done that Americans won't do, as long as we insist on low prices for produce and meat, as long as employers cut costs by cutting out legitimate workers so they can pay less and provide no benefits, people will come across the borders. The "takers" in our society are not the illegals, but the citizens already here that won't work. Note, there are people here that cannot-I don't consider them "takers"; disabled, mentally ill, elderly. I have met "takers" and they are in every state and from every group: white, black, hispanic, asian, rural, urban.

If we want illegals to stop coming, then we must not employ them. But that means paying more, more for landscaping, more for nursery products, more for produce, meat, hotel rooms, almost everything, so employers must hire citizens, pay fair wages and benefits, and adhere to government safety regulations.

Class number two......the rest of us foolish enough to buy in to and be victimized by Obama and all that his welfare state provides. Think corrupt, poverty strickened Cuba only with fifty states and over 350 million people. Of course, as for myself and my family, screw Obama .........I buy my gold at Goldline! Life is good! As for the rest of the lazy, soft Obama lovers enjoy the mediocrity of the welfare state. Meanwhile, Barry The Welfare Pimp is jumping on AF1 to play another celebrity round of golf with Tiger and chase white women. Scandal coming soon about Barry's white porn star girlfriend! By the way, so sad about Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. Using close to $1 million in campaign funds to buy fur lined capes, Michael Jackson memorabelia (I did not know Jackson was gay) and Rolex watches ....not a good idea! Jesse and his wife be going to jail......boooooooooya,

BRP,

"...and then ask yourself if you want your child to be educated in a government run school."

Yes. There are endless examples very similar to the examples you provided of kids succeeding and thriving on public school education.

I really do believe Maximus is MR. His stream-of-consciousness, ignorant ramblings and incessant need to type in an African-American dialect leads me to that conclusion. He either has a mental disorder or he's read a lot of William Faulkner. And, by the looks of it, Maximus hasn't read much of anything in his life.

"your ignorant card is stale."

Then stop being ignorant.

"Look in the mirror."

What am I looking for? I need not look any further than the TFP comment section to observe ignorance like yours. Between you, JonRoss, conservative, joneses, timbo, and BRP, I get my fill of ignorance daily.

Maximus,

"I buy my gold at Goldline."

Which one of the posters here do you think gives a rat's ass where you allegedly buy your gold? No one believes your bullsh!t.

"You get your EBT card from Obama!"

I do not have nor have I ever had an EBT card. Try again, you most idiotic of idiots.

"Now that's funny I don't care what anybody says!"

Like I said before, you must be MR.

"Git r dun and I do like Faulkner and Twain."

I would wager money that you have never read more than a page from either author.

"Two great Americans even though WF liked his bourbon down there in Oxford. Hoddy Toddy!"

I see you did a quick Google search to get some topical information on the man.

"is Jesse Jackson Jr. Ignorant too?"

Comparatively speaking? No. Your ignorance would make an adolescent chimp seem like a savant.

Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt has got to be rolling in his grave at the thought that someone like Maximusty is attempting to pass himself off as one who conducted so much as one minute's study there.

This isn't one isolated incident either. At least once a week, MR proves that he lives in Fantasyland and that he received whatever diploma he claims to have there too.

Maximusty,

"Easy I have no idea what MR means but same to you but more of it!"

MR is the acronym for mental retardation or mentally retarded. It's just a more polite way of saying it.

"..three criteria must be met for a diagnosis of mental retardation: an IQ below 70, significant limitations in two or more areas of adaptive behavior (as measured by an adaptive behavior rating scale, i.e. communication, self-help skills, interpersonal skills, and more), and evidence that the limitations became apparent before the age of 18."

I can safely say you meet all the criteria. And I truly don't mean that jokingly. I have had experiences with individuals with MR and you type/talk like several of the males with MR that I've worked with. You outlandish lies, poor grammar and spelling, along with your repetition of strange phrases coincide with my experiences with those people.

"Absolum! Absolum!"

The correct spelling: Absolom! Abosolom!

We get it. You Googled William Faulkner. Congrats.

"just another indication that we are in deep do do with Barry The Welfare Pimp."

How many times can one type "Welfare Pimp" before they realize their own idiocy?

"Most likely, WWIII with N. Korea or Mid East"

That's your WingNut wet dream. It'll never happen. President Obama is far to intelligent and diplomatic to "pull a Bush", as I like to say.

"Obama and Clays doodles are a disaster for our country and our kids."

Your whole existence is a disaster and I mean that wholeheartedly.

"Everyone except you usual suspect hippy pagan intellectual nerd never got any in high school non theists should pray."

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You're a moron. You have a seriously problem characterizing people accurately. I guess it's hard to think critically when you're sitting on your brain.

Goldline, where for only $5,000 you can purchase $2,100 worth of "collectible" gold coins. Hot-diggety-damn, we're all gonna be rich! Classic bait-and-switch. Promise gold bullion, deliver collectible coins. Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, and that snake handler Huckabee all endorsed Goldline, for a nominal fee, so what could possibly go wrong? I hear Fred Thompson has a rag-top convertible submarine for sale that you can't afford not to buy.

So they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly...Hills that is...

"You would most likely say that one of my business heroes, Donald Trump has MR too."

Trump is just a moron. I'm almost certain that's been scientifically proven by now.

"Easy like I've said, enjoy your self appointed high IQ from your roach infested double wide."

I'd bet the ranch my house is larger and more expensive than yours. Not to brag, I just know how truly full of sh!t you are.

"and yes I know you have worked with people with MR.....your Mom and Dad who you still with."

Thank you so much for proving my point. That statement alone erases any doubt I had that you had a mental disability. I can name several kids that I've worked with that have told almost identical jokes to their peers. You truly cannot keep your foot out of your mouth. It's like clockwork.

"Obamas perfect stiff?"

Type in complete sentences, little one. No one knows what the hell you're saying.
