Man died from a single gunshot to head in South Chattanooga

At close range, a single gunshot to the head killed 33-year-old Warren Ransom.

Ransom was found Saturday afternoon on the side of Hooker Road near a car lot in South Chattanooga. He was just walking distance from Emma Wheeler homes where he had a listed residence.

It appears Ransom was killed where he was found.

"All indications are everything happened right there," Chattanooga Police Sgt. Wayne Jefferson said Wednesday.

Ransom was shot in the head near his temple, according to medical reports.

Police questioned a couple of people Wednesday morning. However, no arrests have been made. Local court records indicate that Ransom had no violent history. He listed himself as self employed on his Facebook page. Some speculated on social media that he was killed as a result of a robbery.

Family members, who are in the process of making arrangements to hold services, shared memories via social media.

"I stayed next door to this man ... he always took care of his two boys and I can honestly say he didn't deserve this he was a nice guy and whoever took his life will have to answer to God may you rest in peace," wrote Emily Arnold on Facebook.

Another friend, Chonnie Williams, commented, "Who would leave him there like that???"

Four blocks away from where Ransom was killed, 13-year-old Deontrey Southers was killed nearly two months ago inside a home on East 50th Street. No one has been arrested in Deontrey's death.

So far, there have been six homicides this year and a total of 20 shootings -- the same number during the same time last year.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Chattanooga police at 423-698-2525 or Crime Stoppers at 698-3333.
