Chattanoogans will ring in 2015 with a special Coca-Cola bottle drop at midnight, part of a homage to the Scenic City's history as the original spot where Coca-Cola was bottled, according to a news release.

The announcement bears similarities to the city's ill-fated barrel drop, a canceled New Year 2014 whiskey-themed celebration that caused controversy among bar owners who were worried that a New Year's Eve block party would hurt their business.

This year, DoubleTree Chattanooga, in partnership with Cumulus Media, says it will call its Coke-themed event "ChattaNew Year," a celebration that will focus on "all things Chattanooga."

The event will take place Dec. 31 beginning at 8 p.m. and will feature the music of Deep Fried Five, hors d'oeuvres from Eleven Restaurant and a full bar with adult beverages and beer selections from Chattanooga Brewery.

The party will move outside in the DoubleTree parking lot just before midnight where there will be a family-friendly street party featuring the first-ever Coca-Cola bottle drop, featuring a giant 12-foot tall LED-lighted bottle.

The outdoor party is free and open to the public and feature Chattanooga-based food trucks as they prepare to count down to the New Year. Chattanooga firefighter Jason Greer and his 17 year-old son, Tristin, will launch the official countdown, signaling the release of Chattanooga's iconic Coca-Cola bottle.

Greer recently completed the Chattanooga Ironman competition to raise money for the organizations that have helped treat Tristin, who is battling stage 4 neuroblastoma.
