Lawyer makes new sexual assault claim in Vandy rape case

Defense attorneys in the Vanderbilt University rape case involving four former football players lodged a new allegation in court Thursday about two of the men charged.

The attorney for one of them disputed the new claim. He acknowledged that some kind of incident occurred on June 22 in Gillette Hall, the same dorm where the rape occurred, but said his client had not been involved and that no crime had been committed.

The new allegation surfaced when one of the defense attorneys for ex-player Brandon Vandenburg asked the judge to assist the defense in getting information about a separate sexual assault on Vanderbilt's campus one night before police say Vandenburg and three other players raped an unconscious female student in a dorm room.
