FLINT, Mich. (AP) – Officials are asking Flint residents to flush the pipes in their homes every day for two weeks to help the Michigan city recover from its lead-tainted water crisis.
But not all residents believe the effort will have its intended effect of helping to remove lead particles and coat the pipes in the city of 100,000.
Lifelong resident Tammy Brewer runs the faucets daily in the bathroom and kitchen of her house. The 54-year-old predicts flushing the pipes won’t help much and says she’s doing it simply “because you have to try everything.”
The state is paying all Flint water bills in May to encourage the practice.
Experts are concerned people leery of using the water haven’t been running enough of it to rid the system of lead.
