Two injured when train hits car in Polk County

A car backed into a moving train tonight, injuring two people in Polk County, police said.

A vehicle was driving north on Needle Eye Lane in Benton, Tenn., when it crossed over railroad tracks near Delano Road, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol spokeswoman Dalya Qualls. The car then stopped and backed into the path of an oncoming train.

An 11-year-old girl in the car was flown to Erlanger hospital, while the man driving the car was taken by ambulance to Woods Memorial Hospital in Etwoah, Tenn., according to Qualls.

Their conditions are not known.
