Tide’s Bateman continues to practice two positions

Alabama’s football program this spring has endured multiple dismissals and injuries, but there have been appreciated moments of levity as well.

Redshirt junior Chris Black, the top returning wide receiver for the Crimson Tide, was asked recently by reporters to assess “Cooper at receiver.”

“He can do it all,” Black said. “He’s got the whole package — size, speed, quickness, everything.”

Black was referencing Amari Cooper, who last season set a Southeastern Conference single-season record with 124 receptions and set program marks for receiving yards (1,727), yards per game (123.4) and touchdowns (16). Yet when the follow-up question concerned whether Cooper had played receiver before, Black quickly smiled.

“Oh, Cooper Bateman,” he said.
