Today’s Democrats unify Americans

A recent letter ended: “So, it’s quite clear that the ‘Democrat’ Party has a history of dividing this country and the Republican Party of unifying the people.”

It is an old, nasty, dirty trick, where facts from one time are used to lie in another time, because the dirty trick letter ended just after the Civil War.

The dirty trick letter ignored Reagan’s bringing all the old, racist Southern Democrats into the GOP.

It ignored the GOP’s tax tricks from Reagan on low taxes for the rich, and not us.

And it ignored all the USA jobs that left us.

The trick skipped the war-starting lies of GOP presidents, skipped the GOP’s laws that set up Bush’s Great Recession.

Also, it skipped the GOP’s wedge issues that were made up to divide us! It ignored the GOP’s joyful wedging of voters apart.

It skipped the GOP’s voter fraud used to keep 600,000 Tennesseans from voting. One GOP legislator said that when “those people” vote, we don’t do so well.

The trick letter didn’t mention the GOP lost of most of “those people” to Democrats.

Indeed, check our history, it’s true that today’s Democrats unify Americans.

Canadian health care has gaps we don’t see

One program Democrats continue to push is single-payer, government-run health care.

I was just in Canada for a conference. Canada has a government-run health care system. One night at dinner I had a discussion with a woman sitting next to me who lived in Canada. I recently had melanoma surgery on my cheek. She had a similar surgery on her leg, so we compared notes on the diagnoses.

I went to a local dermatologist for several years, and he never said anything about the spot on my cheek. I decided to see a different dermatologist. She took one look at the spot and immediately suggested a biopsy, which came back positive. My Canadian friend had a similar experience. The dermatologist insisted that the spot was nothing. In Canada, the doctor has to pay for a biopsy. If it comes back positive, he/she gets reimbursed. My friend said she would pay for the biopsy. It came back positive. How many Americans will go against their doctor’s decision not to do a biopsy once we have this system here?

‘Misleading’ book review leaves reader uninspired

This is in response to the July 22 Life section review (page E1) of a book titled “Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water and Loving the Bible Again” by Rachel Held Evans, but was anything but that.

This was an affront to all who have read and studied the Bible longer than this young woman has lived.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

It is not a myth or story, but is inspiration from God himself, not from someone who decided to write a book. This is nonsensical, disconnected and totally misleading. Too bad the Times Free Press published it.
