Police say they don’t suspect foul play in the discovery of a man’s body in the Holston River.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine whether 41-year-old Billy J. Scalf, of Mount Carmel, drowned, as presumed.
At about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, people who live near the river called 911 and reported hearing a man yelling for help, according to the Kingsport Times-News. Officers arrived and saw Scalf in the water, but he didn’t respond to them and seemed confused.
Scalf’s body was found Friday morning.
