FRANKLIN, Tenn. — This 2009-10 Baylor wrestling team could have been remembered as the first in the 25-year coaching reign of Jim Morgan and Schaack Van Deusen to lose 10 dual meets in a single season.
This Red Raiders team will be remembered instead as state champions.
Baylor came from behind with just one match left to slip by McCallie and win the Division II state championship after the Blue Tornado had pieced together a seemingly insurmountable lead.
“This is the bravest team in our history,” Van Deusen said. “They held together through the injuries with Scotch tape, and in the end a bunch of seniors stepped up and said, ‘Count me in.'”
Meanwhile, Bradley Central won its third straight Division I championship.
