CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Cleveland City Schools has crossed the $1 million mark in energy cost avoidance since beginning a conservation program 28 months ago, while Bradley County Schools has avoided more than $10 million in costs in its program’s 12 years.

Conservation directors at both school systems recently presented reports to their respective school boards.

“It’s everybody taking part,” said Paul Ramsey, with the city system. “All school-system personnel, kitchen and maintenance staffs, teachers and administrators, have bought into saving energy in many ways.”

School personnel are turning off unneeded lights and computers, and thermostats are being adjusted, he said.

Ramsey said the school system received an award in November from its consultant for the success of its program.
