Simplicity rules at J’s Diner

J’s Diner, located on the first floor of the Volunteer Building, is a favorite of those working in the building as well as those working nearby. If you’re in the area, stop in for lunch. You’re guaranteed to find a sandwich to your liking.

THE MENU

Philly cheesesteak, burgers, gyros, Reuben, chicken salad, egg salad, turkey-avocado, club sandwich, roast beef sandwich. You name it, you’ll most likely find it on the menu. I was fairly overwhelmed with choices.

The order (for two): Black bean burger and turkey-avocado sandwich.

It’s hard to mash together a bunch of black beans, make them stick and grill them at the same time. But J’s does it well. The only thing I didn’t like was the sugar added. I don’t know why they make this “burger” sweet. Spices were all that was needed to add flavor to the beans. A good slathering of mustard, along with some onion, made the black bean burger very good. The consistency was soft with a crispy edge. Altogether excellent once the adjustments were made.
