CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Local school systems are making dramatic changes to reform education and serve international industries moving here.
The Cleveland and Bradley County school systems are working to bring an International Baccalaureate program here and encouraging Tennessee to consider the Cambridge System, another international program for secondary schools.
“We are looking very seriously at the International Baccalaureate program,” said Dan Glasscock, secondary education supervisor for Bradley County schools. Local school officials recently went to Nashville to discuss the program with the state Education Department.
“We are working with the state to bring Cambridge to Tennessee,” County Schools Director Johnny McDaniel said.
“As folks from Germany consider bringing their children to Bradley County, we want to have programs where they will be able to transition back to European schools. … It also provides, we believe, a rigorous and relative way to go about high school reform.”
