Mitch Albom’s classic memoir, “Tuesdays With Morrie,” will be presented at the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, Tenn., beginning today.
The play, which runs through May 12, is Albom’s autobiographical account of his reunion and visits with his former college professor 16 years after graduation. Albom reconnects with his teacher after learning he has ALS, or Lou Gehrig disease.
The original work was released in 1997. It topped The New York Times nonfiction best-seller list in 2000.
“Tuesdays With Morrie” is one of seven new productions coming this season. Also scheduled are “Chicago,” “My Fair Lady,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Dreamgirls,” “Dearly Departed” and the regional premiere of the hot new Disney teen musical “Camp Rock.”
“Oklahoma” and “Fiddler on the Roof” are set for revivals, and three perennial favorites are returning: “Duck Hunter Shoots Angel,” “The Nutcracker” and “Smoke on the Mountain” in its 18th year.
The show that inspired the founding of the playhouse in 1963, Paul Crabtree’s “The Perils of Pinocchio,” will have a limited run of three weeks.
Concerts this season include jazz great Chris Brubeck, These Three Tenors and Tito Puente Jr. The Lula Washington Dance company also will perform.
