PICAYUNE, Miss. – Mississippi authorities say a man who crashed his car while eluding police is suspected of robbing banks in three states.
Picayune Deputy Police Chief David Ervin tells The Sun Herald that 51-year-old Terrence James Hardy of Ocean Springs was driving a vehicle stolen in South Carolina when an officer tried to pull him over on Mississippi 43 around 1:25 a.m. Thursday.
Ervin said officers found inside the car thousands of dollars, a Federal Reserve Bank bag and paperwork that linked Hardy to a Wednesday bank heist in Jackson, Tenn.
He said bank-surveillance pictures and other evidence link Hardy to bank robberies in Hattiesburg on May 18 and Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on May 7.
It was not immediately known whether Hardy has an attorney.
