DeKalb deputy’s court date set
A DeKalb County sheriff’s deputy charged with third-degree assault in connection with an alleged fight last year had his bench trial set for January on Wednesday.
Jeffery Bain Jr. was arrested Oct. 14 with his brother, Jacob, after Christopher Sanders filed warrants, records show. Jeffery Bain was placed on administrative leave after he was arrested.
A bench trial was set for both men on Jan. 26, according to the Cherokee County Clerk of Court’s office. At the trial, they will be able to plead guilty or not guilty before a judge.
Sanders alleges he was assaulted by Jacob Bain and that Jeffery Bain joined in the fight and kicked him, records show. Sanders didn’t press charges until now, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Lake drained; teen’s body found
Authorities in Clayton County say they found the body of a 15-year-old boy who apparently drowned after chasing a basketball into a lake.
Officials say they found the teen, identified as Henri-Christophe Bourget, on Tuesday in heavy undergrowth.
Clayton County Police Capt. Tina Daniel says Lake Atlanta was drained because it’s a natural green space with a lot of undergrowth.
A police dive team, the Clayton County Fire Department and the state Department of Natural Resources had been searching for the boy since Saturday.
Police said Bourget was walking along the lake on Saturday when the ball he was carrying popped loose. They say he apparently got tangled up in weeds and bushes in the water.

Murfreesboro Police Detective Tommy Roberts had obtained indictments charging Frazier with 10 counts of sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.
To locate Frazier, Roberts sought the help of Rutherford County Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Thomas, who is a member of the marshal’s fugitive task force.
