The Dalton Public Safety Commission announced two finalists for the city’s police chief position: current Assistant Chief Cliff Cason and current Captain Chris Cooke.
Cason has worked for the Dalton Police Department since 1993. He has worked as a detective, including in the drug unit, and has been a commander over the department’s support services division and patrol division. He has been the department’s acting chief since Jason Parker left to become Dalton’s city manager in January.
Cooke has worked for the department since 1996. He has been a planning and research manager, supervisor of the department’s drug unit and patrol division commander. He is currently the support services commander.
The public safety commission consists of Bill Weaver, Carlos Calderin, Terry Mathis, Keith Whitworth and Kenneth Willis.
“Either of these candidates can take it to even greater heights than where we currently are,” Weaver said in a statement.
